As per recent news, it appears that Electronic Arts (EA) has decided to scrap their Black Panther video game project and simultaneously closed down a young development studio named Cliffhanger Games.
According to IGN’s report, it appears that EA Entertainment president Laura Miele sent an email to staff members, announcing a decision that involves job losses for several team members. This action follows the cancellation of a Titanfall project and layoffs of around 100 developers at Respawn Entertainment, which took place about a month ago.
In the email, Miele outlined that these choices were made to better concentrate our efforts and channel our creativity towards the biggest growth prospects, all while expressing EA’s dedication to assisting impacted employees in securing roles within the company or its developmental departments.
The memo states, “Making these choices is challenging as they impact individuals we’ve collaborated with, gained knowledge from, and created memories with. We are making every effort to assist them, even exploring possibilities within our organization (Effective Altruism) where we have a track record of helping people transition into new positions.
2023 saw the announcement of the upcoming Black Panther game, said to be a solo action adventure set within an expansive open-world environment. The developer behind this project, Cliffhanger Games, was established in 2021, with the highly anticipated Black Panther game slated as their inaugural title.
