EA Lays Off 300 to 400 Employees, Cancels Titanfall Extraction Shooter – Rumor

Recenty, Respawn Entertainment disclosed that they have shelved two projects in their experimental phase. Despite concentrating on Apex Legends and the upcoming Star Wars Jedi game, they also affirmed that there would be strategic adjustments to the teams working on both titles.

As reported by sources talking to Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, it’s estimated that Electronic Arts has let go of around 300 to 400 employees. Approximately 100 of these layoffs are from Respawn Entertainment. However, the exact number of those offered “new opportunities within EA” remains uncertain.

One of the terminated projects was rumored to be a game centered around extraction, taking place in the Titanfall universe, known as R7 (a project that wasn’t even close to being launched). The other project, which appears to have been scrapped earlier this year, may refer to the multiplayer project cancelled last month. It seems that layoffs also occurred for this project, with Emilee Evans, a former executive assistant and production coordinator, looking for new employment opportunities.

In addition to “Star Wars Jedi 3” and “Apex Legends”, Respawn Entertainment is currently developing “Star Wars Zero Company” by Bit Reactor, a tactical strategy game similar to “XCOM”. This game is expected to release in the year 2026. They are also actively participating in the development of the next “Battlefield”, which is currently undergoing extensive testing within the “Battlefield” Labs.
