As a dedicated gamer who has weathered countless storms in the gaming world, I’ve come to accept that some beloved franchises take their sweet time to return. The latest news about Dead Space is just another nail in the coffin of my hopes for a new installment.
Currently, the survival horror genre is experiencing a boom, yet not all recent releases within this genre have been successful. The highly anticipated remake of Dead Space in 2023 was an exceptional game on its own, but according to reports, poor sales have resulted in Electronic Arts putting future plans for the franchise on hold once more. This suggests that we may be waiting quite some time before Dead Space makes a comeback.
It appears that even the creator of the series, Glen Schofield, couldn’t persuade EA to continue funding the sci-fi horror series. In a recent interview with Dan Allen Gaming, Schofield, who departed Striking Distance Studios last year following the underwhelming reception of their first game, The Callisto Protocol, disclosed that he and other Dead Space veterans Bret Robbins and Christopher Stone proposed a Dead Space 4 to EA this year. However, the company opted not to pursue the idea.
As a passionate enthusiast, let me share that my team and I truly gave it our all, attempting to bring about Dead Space 4 this year. Alas, the powers that be declined our proposal.
He noted that they hadn’t delved too far. They responded with “We’re not keen at the moment, thanks for considering it, blah blah blah.” Recognizing whom to engage, they decided against pursuing it any further. They acknowledged their perspective. They are well-versed in their figures and what they need to deliver.
Stone stated, “Indeed, the industry is in a peculiar state at the moment. Folks are quite cautious about new ventures, so do bear that in mind. Perhaps someday, who can say? I believe we’d all be thrilled if it were possible.
“Yeah. We’ve got some ideas,” Schofield added.
When inquired about their interest in potentially playing a hypothetical game named “Dead Space 4” at some stage, both Schofield and Stone expressed affirmative responses. In Stone’s words, he stated, “I would create a ‘Dead Space 4’.
“Yes,” Schofield agreed.
It’s uncertain when or if a new installment of the popular sci-fi horror series “Dead Space” will be released in the future. Despite EA’s apparent disappointment with the sales of the 2023 remake, the interest in the franchise hasn’t waned. However, for now, it seems that we won’t be getting any new content related to “Dead Space” anytime in the near future.
