As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of ups and downs in the gaming industry. I was genuinely excited when I heard about the release of Earth Defense Force 6 (EDF6), the latest installment in the beloved series by D3 Publisher. Having played and enjoyed the previous games, I was looking forward to jumping back into the shoes of the Earth Defense Force (EDF) soldiers and saving the world yet again.
Beginning in Japan in 2022 (selling 300,000 units within its initial week), D3 Publisher’s title “Earth Defense Force 6” has now arrived in North America and Europe for PS4, PS5, and PC. In a world where humans are on the brink of extinction, the EDF embarks on a time-traveling mission to alter history. However, this task is not an easy feat and gamers can anticipate approximately 150 missions – the most in the series so far. Additionally, the game offers co-op mode for up to four players.
Following its release on Steam, “Earth Defense Force 6” has received a predominantly negative response with just over a quarter (23%) of its 657 user reviews expressing approval. The controversy surrounding the requirement of an Epic Games Store account to access the online mode is a potential cause for concern, although it’s unclear if this was an error or intentional.
