Relic Entertainment, recognized for their past creations in real-time strategy games such as the ‘Company of Heroes‘ and ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War’ series, have unveiled plans for a new project. Titled ‘Earth vs Mars‘, this upcoming game seems to be a shift in direction for the studio, as it appears to be a turn-based strategy game instead of their usual real-time style.
In essence, the narrative of the game Earth vs Mars centers around Earth’s military force battling an invasion from Mars. The visual style is reminiscent of yesteryear, featuring traditional sci-fi motifs in Earth’s military forces and the Martian army arriving with classic UFOs. You can watch the trailer here for a sneak peek.
In this unique gaming experience, you’ll encounter an exciting gameplay element called the Splice-O-Tron. This tool enables players to blend their human soldiers with various animals, resulting in potent hybrid warriors boasting new skills. Throughout the game, you’ll embark on a comprehensive campaign that offers not only intense combat but also the opportunity to unlock fresh creatures and enhancements as you progress further into the storyline. The campaign consists of 30 meticulously designed missions.
For fans of multiplayer games, “Earth vs Mars” offers a 1-versus-1 Player versus Player (PvP) mode, allowing each player to select either the human military or the Martian invaders. Additionally, there is a skirmish mode where players can engage in one-on-one battles against AI opponents.
The main game mechanics appear to have drawn significant influence from Nintendo’s Advance Wars series, featuring combat scenarios where troops engage in battles that unfold independently, including scenes of tiny soldiers firing at hovering UFOs.
The game “Earth vs Mars” hasn’t been released with a specific date yet. However, you can add it to your wishlist on PC through Steam.
The news about the game “Earth vs Mars” follows closely after the studio revealed its intention to continue supporting its current games, as well as developing smaller projects for more frequent releases. It appears that “Earth vs Mars” is one of the initial significant moves towards this strategy.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the company is committed to continuing its support for the current strategy gem, Company of Heroes 3, with upcoming updates and fresh content. Moreover, Relic Entertainment, the mastermind behind this game, is delving deeper into their rich history to resurface some of their classic titles for today’s audience. This could mean re-releases, remasters, or even new installments in some of their timeless franchises. It’s an exciting time to be a fan!
In March 2024, Relic Entertainment parted ways with Sega, an association that had lasted for over a decade. This separation wasn’t without its challenges, as the studio found itself needing to reduce its workforce by 41 people after the split. Known for their deep roots in real-time strategy gaming, Relic has produced timeless games such as “Company of Heroes” and more contemporary ones like “Age of Empires 4”.
