On March 2, 2025, the Oscars in Los Angeles wasn’t the only significant happening. Merely hours after the awards ceremony concluded and the post-parties were at their peak, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake occurred across greater Los Angeles. This seismic activity took place approximately 10:13 p.m. local time, affecting areas such as North Hollywood, Universal City, and Studio City, according to data from the United States Geological Survey.
Interestingly, despite the event, the Los Angeles Fire Department stated that they were not activating their earthquake response protocols, and no immediate injuries or damages were reported to local authorities.
The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where Conan O’Brien was hosting the 2025 Oscars, was situated about 10 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake. Remarkably, this earthquake occurred almost two months after the region had been hit by destructive wildfires.
In his opening monologue, Conan addressed the recent L.A. Fires, expressing empathy for those both in front of and behind the camera who had experienced a challenging ordeal.
He clarified, “It’s easy for any awards ceremony to appear self-centered and unnecessary, but let me remind you why we’ve come together tonight. Yes, we will acknowledge many stunning and gifted celebrities. However, the Oscars also highlights an extraordinary group of people who often go unnoticed – craftspeople, artisans, technicians, individuals behind the camera. They have dedicated their lives to creating films that, in a heartbeat, can unite us all. Tonight, we’re not just celebrating famous or wealthy individuals; we’re honoring devoted artists.
At the actual event itself, “Anora,” directed by “Sean Baker,” shone brightly during the award ceremony, taking home trophies for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Actress (for Mikey Madison’s portrayal of Ani).
The glamorous event also saw victories for Best Actor (Adrien Brody), Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña), and Best Supporting Actor (Kieran Culkin).
But the night didn’t end with the stars leaving the Dolby Theatre. Many continued their celebrations at various after-parties. Keep reading to find out who graced the red carpet at these post-ceremony bashes.
