2022 saw Electronic Arts (EA) and Marvel Games unveil a fresh video game centered around Iron Man. Since then, some details have been disclosed, but we’re still waiting for a trailer or substantial information. This could change during the upcoming Game Developers Conference in late March. On March 17th, Martin Palko from EA will be delivering a talk at GDC called “Texture Pipeline Revolution: EA’s Adventure with Texture Sets.” According to the GDC website’s description of the lecture, it will discuss EA’s experiences in creating texture sets for projects like Dead Space, Iron Man, and others.
It’s unlikely that Electronic Arts (EA) will reveal a trailer or gameplay footage at GDC, as it isn’t the type of event where such announcements are common. So far, we’ve only seen one concept art piece for the Iron Man game. There’s a possibility that we might finally get to see what the in-game version of Iron Man looks like. We could also gather some insights about the progress of the game’s development over the past few years. Developing games takes a significant amount of time, and there’s no indication that the game is in trouble or that EA has been delaying it. Instead, this event might offer us a glimpse into how development has been going.
To date, specifics about the Iron Man video game are scarce. It’s being crafted by EA Motive, renowned for their work on the highly-praised Dead Space remake. The scriptwriting team includes Marvel scribe Ryan North and Ashley Cooper, who previously worked on Gotham Knights. There’s buzz that it might offer an open world environment, but this remains unverified for now.
It’s likely that the GDC lecture will unveil significant details about Iron Man in the near future. Although Iron Man has been featured in numerous video games throughout the years, his appearances are often limited to ensemble titles such as Marvel Rivals or LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. There have been some exceptions like Marvel’s Iron Man VR, but a full-scale AAA experience on the level of Spider-Man is yet to be realized for Iron Man. Given Iron Man’s growing prominence over the last 15 years, it’s somewhat unexpected that such an experience has taken this long to materialize.
The stage of development for EA’s Iron Man isn’t clear at the moment, but since the publisher is becoming more vocal about the game, it might be moving along smoothly. A launch is likely still a couple of years off, though we can’t say for certain just yet. Fortunately, Marvel enthusiasts eager for a significant single-player title have Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra to anticipate later in this year.
