EastEnders airs devastating separation in early iPlayer release

As a movie lover with a heart for dramatic plots, I must say the latest twist in EastEnders has left me utterly engrossed. The arrest of Sonia, a character I’ve come to know and care for over the years, is a chilling development that has sent Albert Square into a frenzy.

Today’s episode of EastEnders brought a surprising turn in the plot involving Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) and Reiss (Jonny Freeman).

Albert Square was reeling at the news of Sonia being charged with the murder of Debbie.

Despite many finding it hard to accept that the nurse was capable of being a murderer, she struggled to accept it too, sitting in her holding cell.

It seemed that Reiss harbored a sense of guilt, too, as the consequences of his choices began to dog him relentlessly, particularly when he contemplated his expectant companion.

Instead of asking directly, he sought assistance from Jack Branning (Scott Maslen). Somehow, he was able to arrange a visit for him inside Sonia’s cell.

They mourned over the thought of how their lives would be different now that Sonia was imprisoned, and they were facing pregnancy without her, all while striving to stay composed to avoid any potential risks to their unborn child.

The unfortunate conclusion to their reunion occurred swiftly when a police officer suddenly intervened to take her away for a prolonged stay in jail until her court appearance, where she would present her case.

Sonia cried that she was scared, while Jack held Reiss back from making the situation any worse.

The pair muttered a tearful “bye” to each other in upsetting scenes.

How will Sonia cope in prison? And will Reiss do the right thing by innocent Sonia?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
