EastEnders airs historic Chrissie Watts bombshell in early BBC iPlayer release

As a long-time follower of EastEnders, I must say that the latest twist in Chrissie Watts’ storyline has left me utterly stunned. The tension between her and Sharon Watts is palpable, and it seems like old wounds are being reopened.

heads up: The events of today’s EastEnders episode, available now on BBC iPlayer and airing later tonight on BBC One, may reveal plot twists that you might prefer to discover during the broadcast.

This article includes discussion of pregnancy loss that some readers might find upsetting.

In EastEnders, another unexpected turn occurred in Chrissie Watts’s storyline (portrayed by Tracy-Ann Oberman). She left her former stepdaughter Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) astonished when she disclosed a past secret.

In a cell, where she had Sharon pinned with a knife, Chrissie retaliated by striking Sharon, this being a response to the time 19 years earlier when Sharon had struck Chrissie at Stansted Airport.

Chrissie emphatically stated that she came extremely near to eluding the police in 2005, only for Sharon to intervene. She emphasized that her life had been drastically altered because of Den Watts (Leslie Grantham), whom she harshly criticized as a “deceitful, seedy imposter.

When Sharon inquired whether that transformed Chrissie into Mother Teresa, Chrissie retorted by saying she possessed “superior hair”.

However, as the discussion took a grim turn again, Chrissie disclosed that she was carrying Jake Moon’s (Joel Beckett’s) child while serving time for murder. Unfortunately, she lost the baby via miscarriage about two weeks after being incarcerated.

Following her instruction to Jake to live separately from her, Chrissie initially intended to reveal their unborn child after the first ultrasound, but now she holds Sharon responsible for the miscarriage.

Thinking about Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), Sharon confessed that if she’d known back then the truth about men and critical life circumstances as she does now, she would have made different choices.

Regarding Chrissie’s upcoming parole hearing, Sharon vowed to make sure Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) keeps his distance from Chrissie once she is released.

Chrissie expressed doubt, hinting that she’d been wronged by the Mitchells in retaliation for her actions against Sam (Kim Medcalf). This was a result of her defending herself when Den attempted to harm her.

Sharon tried to move the knife out of Chrissie’s proximity, hoping to prevent her from gaining control, as Chrissie was about to heat up the kettle to inflict permanent injuries on Sharon.

In the instant when Dor called for help and a guard entered, Sharon accidentally knocked the kettle from Chrissie’s grip.

Afterward, I handed over my phone to Sharon, allowing her to reach out to her son Albie, as a fellow guard subtly prompted Sharon to share with the governor the recent disturbing actions of Chrissie towards her. (First-person perspective as a movie critic describing the scene.)

As for me, I was assured my remaining days behind bars would be eased, while poor Chrissie, now confined to solitary, seemed destined for another round of hardship.

However, as Chrissie was escorted away, she cautioned Sharon against disclosing anything, lest the happenings from the previous Christmas be revealed. Will Sharon keep silent or choose to speak up?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
