EastEnders airs huge trial confession in early BBC iPlayer release

As a long-time EastEnders enthusiast, I must admit that the recent turn of events in Dean Wicks’ trial has left me absolutely spellbound! The way the writers have interwoven past narratives with current storylines is truly commendable.

During the murder trial of Dean Wicks (played by Matt Di Angelo), an unexpected confession took place that left everyone astonished!

As Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) remained in custody for a week due to contempt of court charges, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) balked at providing testimony, fearing that Watts’ defense would dismantle her the same way they had torn apart Watts.

Since the judge postponed the case, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) managed to arrange a visit to see Sharon, encouraging her to stay low-key while serving her time in prison.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, it fell upon me and the surviving members of our group, The Six, to persuade Linda. With a cunning strategy devised by the manipulative Phil, he cleverly exploited Johnny Carter’s (Charlie Suff) phone to fabricate a heart-wrenching tale that Linda’s precious younger children, Annie and Ollie, had been hurt.

Inside the hospital, Linda was confronted by Kathy Cotton, Suki Panesar, and Stacey Slater. They swiftly reassured her, calming her down by letting her know that her children were secure.

In a heartfelt effort to secure a brighter future for her children, I was able to persuade Linda to reappear in court, as it was crucial for her to do so.

In my perspective, during the trial, I aimed to undermine the credibility of the witness’s statement by leveraging her history with alcohol addiction and implying that she might have been too intoxicated to accurately identify Dean as the one who was moving Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) body at Christmas.

However, Linda remained steadfast, declaring she hadn’t been drinking on that particular day. She also mentioned that she had a long-standing relationship with Dean and was positive she had recognized him correctly.

This answer sufficiently silenced further inquiries, leaving Linda feeling both relieved and troubled, as Dean secretly maintained his belief that he had witnessed Linda consuming alcohol on Christmas Day, while he was clandestinely moving around her residence.

Indeed, it’s common knowledge that Linda is the real killer of Keanu, but when Dean stepped in as the witness, he might have effectively helped secure a conviction for the crime.

Linda teamed up with Kathy, Suki, Stacey, and Denise Fox (Diane Parish), observing as Dean was interrogated. When the prosecution caught Dean in a mistake, Dean became enraged and openly blamed Sharon for killing Keanu.

Dean later implied that the six females had falsely accused him. Following a pause, he disclosed that this was due to his past actions of assaulting Linda about a decade back.

In the gallery, Linda caught her breath as Dean declared, “I am guilty of the rape she accuses me of. Go ahead and sentence me for that. However, there’s something else I want to make clear, my dear prosecutor: You won’t be convicting me for a murder I didn’t commit.”

The court session ended without a verdict for Dean regarding the murder case, keeping his future uncertain. For Linda and devoted EastEnders viewers though, it marked the long-awaited climax that began back in 2014.

Despite the fact that Dean confessed to raping Linda earlier, such a crime was never officially acknowledged, and he was acquitted following allegations of attempting to rape Roxy Mitchell (played by Rita Simons) some time in the past.

With the truth about his attack on Linda finally out, will Dean go down once and for all?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
