View Urgent ForecastEastEnders has aired an unannounced voice cameo as part of the return storyline of Nigel Bates.
On Christmas Eve, Paul Bradley’s surprising reappearance as Nigel Bate was featured on BBC One’s soap opera. However, it’s become evident since then that he isn’t fully truthful with his friend Phil Mitchell (played by Steve McFadden), who is facing difficulties.
Although it seemed like Nigel didn’t have a permanent residence, Christmas Day’s events showed that he was receiving messages from his wife Julie Bates (née Haye), urging him to come back home. Nigel had previously told Phil that he and Julie had parted ways, and she had asked him to leave their shared home after moving on from their relationship.
In the latest broadcast on Monday, Nigel secured a position at Kathy’s Cafe following his reunion with long-time acquaintance Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth). He lent a hand during the busy lunch hour, eventually landing the job.
During the entire episode, Nigel faced Billy Mitchell’s (Perry Fenwick), Phil’s cousin, doubts regarding the true reason behind Nigel’s return to Walford.
Meanwhile, Nigel’s memories of his old friendship with Dot Branning (June Brown) resurfaced, causing Billy to believe that Nigel’s return to Walford and his stay with Phil were not driven by any sinister intentions.
Meanwhile, during the chat, Nigel chose not to answer a phone call and only listened to a voicemail afterward when Billy was gone. The person who left the voicemail was his wife, Julie (voiced by actress Karen Henthorn).
Hey Nigel, I want to assure you that I’m not upset or angry in any way. I’m simply concerned about where you’ve been and why you left suddenly. I just need to know if everything is okay with you. I truly miss your presence and care for you deeply, Nigel.
Will an emotional Nigel get back in touch with Julie and will we see her back in Walford?
It appears that upcoming events may unveil what secret Nigel has been keeping. This revelation could take place as he confides in Yolande Trueman, a friend of Dot’s from the past (played by Angela Wynter).
Who is Julie Haye in EastEnders?
Julie Haye, now Bates, is the second wife of Nigel Bates, played by actress Karen Henthorn.
The character appeared in EastEnders from 1997 to 1998.
In simpler terms, Julie, who is a school teacher, steps in to guide Nigel’s stepdaughter Clare Bates (played by Gemma Bissix) away from her recent involvement with a group of bullies. With their joint efforts, they manage to curtail Clare’s negative behavior successfully.
Through their shared passion for movies and collaborating on a school production about Walford, they formed a strong bond of friendship, which eventually bloomed into a romantic relationship.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I found myself deeply engrossed in the tale of Nigel and Julie’s love story, only for it to take an unexpected turn. The entrance of Julie’s estranged husband, Josh Saunders – portrayed by S Club 7’s very own Jon Lee – complicates matters significantly. The heart-wrenching twist unveils that not only is Josh Julie’s love interest, but he is also her son! To add fuel to the fire, Julie contemplates relocating to Scotland with Josh, tearing him away from his father and potentially shattering Nigel’s world.

Although Julie’s relationship with Nigel flourishes in spite of his apprehension about being rejected, his lingering sorrow over the loss of Debbie, Clare’s mother, eventually prompts him to call off their romance.
Clare intends to bring Julie and Josh back together, despite their plans to relocate to Scotland. However, Nigel refuses the invitation to the celebration following the play’s triumphant run.
However, as Julie and Josh prepare to depart from Walford in their taxi, a passionate Nigel halts the vehicle and declares his affection for the teacher, inviting both himself and Clare to accompany them on a trip to Scotland. To everyone’s surprise, Julie agrees.
In April 1998, Julie went back to pick up Nigel and Clare, marking the start of their journey towards a new life in Scotland as a family.
