EastEnders’ Anita Dobson Reveals Cut Angie Watts Scene Was Meant for Surprise

Actress Anita Dobson, a well-known figure on EastEnders, shared insights about an additional Angie Watts scene that was initially planned for the soap’s anniversary episodes but ultimately didn’t make the final cut earlier in 2022.

A well-known actor, absent from the soap for over 37 years, suddenly returned to our screens in February, taking on the iconic role of the Queen Vic landlady, marking a special anniversary of 40 years of the show’s broadcast.

In a vision-like apparition, Angel reemerged in the corridors of The Queen Vic, making a return visit to stand by her daughter, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), who was battling for survival following an explosion at the pub.

In a state where she was buried beneath debris and oscillating between awareness and unconsciousness, Sharon felt her resolve dwindling. But then, just when all seemed lost, she caught sight of the one individual capable of inspiring her to persevere – her mother, Angie Watts.

In an interview with TopMob magazine coming up next week, Dobson disclosed that originally, they had planned an additional 40th anniversary scene involving Angie’s voice. However, this scene was omitted to preserve the element of surprise regarding the character’s appearance.

She mentioned that there would have been a brief moment prior to seeing her where you’d hear Angie reading a letter to Sharon. However, she felt that including this scene might give away the fact that Sharon was about to appear in the story.

I suggested having only one scene, and it turned out to be delightful. They agreed, so we went ahead with the plan, and it turned out wonderfully and unexpectedly.

This week on EastEnders, Zack Hudson’s scheme to keep his secret son Barney Mitchell hidden from view takes a disastrous turn. Meanwhile, Phil Mitchell attempts to mend fences with Nigel Bates.

Elsewhere, a terrifying car crash puts multiple lives at risk.
