EastEnders’ Balvinder Sopal hopes for Suki and Ash reconciliation: ‘Needs to happen’

As a devoted admirer, I’ve always found the character of Suki Panesar, skillfully portrayed by Balvinder Sopal, incredibly relatable. Over the years, she’s had a challenging journey with her family, largely due to her personal struggles in accepting and embracing her identity as a lesbian.

However, the beloved character from EastEnders has gained strength in embracing her true self. She has effectively banished her former husband Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) from her thoughts since his demise, and is now progressing confidently with her partner, Eve (Heather Peace).

Though most family members on the Square now back her in her latest phase (except for Nugget, who was influenced by Nish), there remains the issue concerning Ash (Gurlaine Kaur Garcha). She departed Walford in 2023 to pursue a job opportunity in Canada. However, she took it as an opportunity to begin anew after Suki’s disapproval of her lesbian relationship with Iqra.

It’s no secret that viewers understand Suki struggled with understanding her own sexuality, which led to a distance between her and Ash. However, as Suki is now embarking on a fresh chapter in her life, it seems like the perfect moment for mother and daughter to reconnect.

Addressing TopMob during our EastEnders photoshoot, I expressed my viewpoint: “It seems crucial for a significant discussion to take place. Ashneet endured immense pain and mistreatment at the hands of her mother, which should not be overlooked.

“We know why, but I don’t think Ashneet knows that as yet.”

Sopal commented, “Don’t you agree this could lead to an excellent discussion? I believe Suki would appreciate the opportunity for reconciliation.

As Suki embraces who she is totally and fully now, is it the right time to bring back Ash?
