Over the last several months, there have been quite a few significant entrances and exits on EastEnders, particularly as it marked its 40th anniversary in February.
It seems that there might be even more exciting developments ahead, as I eagerly anticipate the possibility of a well-known character gracing our screens again in the not-so-far future. This tantalizing hint comes from BBC’s Head of Continuing Drama, Kate Oates.
At the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards, where our soap won both Best Soap and Continuing Drama accolades, Oates announced at the winner’s press conference that if fans are hoping for a comeback, they might not be let down as there could be one in the future.
She mentioned, “Excitingly large stories are upcoming. If you’re looking for a comeback, you might find it intriguing to see what lies ahead.
No additional hints emerged about whom the return could possibly be for, yet eager fans will likely jump into guesswork immediately, and let me tell you, there are definitely plenty of potential candidates available.
For the first time since 2019, EastEnders triumphantly claimed the Best Soap award, making it their tenth win overall in this category since its establishment in 1999. This number of wins surpasses any other soap in the competition, with Casualty, which had reigned supreme for the past two years, and Coronation Street being among the runners-up this year.
