Fans of EastEnders eagerly anticipate the soap’s grand 40th anniversary celebration through a thrilling live episode. To add to the excitement, the show has unveiled plans for a special one-hour documentary to commemorate the occasion.
As a passionate movie buff, I’m thrilled to share that “EastEnders: 40 Years on the Square” will be hosted by none other than Ross Kemp, a familiar face both on screen and off for many of us. Interestingly, Ross is not only the host but will also reprise his role as Grant Mitchell in the show this year!
In this upcoming special documentary, we’ll explore the significant milestones spanning the past 40 years of our show, highlighting its most unforgettable moments. Additionally, we’ll acknowledge how it has influenced and molded viewers’ perspectives on various critical topics that have dominated discussions over the last four decades.
Revisited plot points will encompass significant moments such as the first depiction of a romantic kiss between two male characters on British TV, the exploration of Kat’s past experiences with abuse, and the narratives surrounding Mark Fowler and Zack learning they have HIV.
The documentary features conversations with Ross, along with the original actors Adam Woodyatt, Gillian Taylforth, and Letitia Dean, as well as guest appearances by Anita Dobson and Pam St Clement.

Kemp expressed gratitude in a statement for being given the opportunity to showcase this documentary, highlighting its celebration of EastEnders’ 40th anniversary.
While working on its creation, I found myself frequently reflecting on the significant influence EastEnders exerts. This impact extends beyond just the cast and crew, reaching the viewers as well, and even shaping British culture at large.
Not only did it provide a delightful chance, but also a nostalgic journey along Memory Lane with several cherished companions, both familiar and fresh faces. It was truly a privilege to mark this memorable occasion in such a way.
Simultaneously, Joe Ingham, the executive producer at Pulse Films, commented: “For four decades, EastEnders has changed the way TV viewers perceive television – and I’m one of them.
Working alongside Ross Kemp has been a great privilege, and it was an honor to delve into the lesser-known aspects of Albert Square. We were able to facilitate some deeply emotional family reunions, and we gained insight into the profound impact that Walford’s residents continue to have on their community beyond postal code E20.
