EastEnders’ Himesh Patel stopped Tamwar Masood heartbreak with exit

As a dedicated EastEnders fan who has witnessed the Masood family’s rollercoaster ride over the years, I must say it was bittersweet to see Tamwar (Himesh Patel) and Nancy Carter embark on their adventure together. It felt like losing a beloved member of our own family as they left Walford behind. However, Himesh’s decision to leave EastEnders after nine years, seeking new experiences, was understandable.

A large number of EastEnders viewers may recall the collective sorrow experienced upon Tamwar Masood’s departure from Albert Square, accompanied by Nancy Carter (played by Maddy Hill), as they embarked on a journey together, setting off to explore new horizons.

Currently, Himesh Patel has shared insights regarding the choice of having Tamwar and Nancy depart together. For him, it was essential that Tamwar exited Walford in a content state.

On Origins with Cush Jumbo, Patel shared insights about his choice to depart from the BBC soap following a span of nine years where he played the lovable and intellectual character, Tamwar Masood.

He mentioned that for a while, he had this feeling that he’d eventually depart from EastEnders, as he yearned for a change and was unsure about what new opportunities might arise.

Fortunately, I managed to escape unharmed since the door remained ajar. In other words, I’m still very much alive in this story.

Since Patel stopped playing his character on the soap, there have been numerous references to him when Nancy came back to Walford. This implied that the two had tied the knot at some point, but eventually divorced.

Reflecting on his departure, I found myself expressing, “It was Dominic Treadwell-Collins, the exceptional executive producer, who sat me down. Maddy Hill, my on-screen partner at that time, had decided to move on. In a moment of reflection, I felt compelled to suggest, ‘Let’s write a happy ending for both of us here. I believe we should embark on this journey together.’

However, I recall a discussion with Dominic where he expressed, “I prefer you not to depart. I’d rather see him upset at the train station.” To which I responded, “I don’t wish to cause him pain like that. I don’t want to do it. Instead, I hope he remains happy.

One might just wish that Tamwar is content wherever he may be, since it’s clear that Masood is with Jane Beale!

Many devoted EastEnders viewers hold a special fondness for Tamwar and the entire Masood family, frequently expressing their desire for their comeback on various social platforms.

During the initial audition for Tamwar’s role, Patel expressed: “I was essentially portraying myself. In essence, I was that character – a lifelong nerd, and truth be told, an extremely awkward, socially maladjusted teenager back then. They did well to cast me because I embodied the part entirely.

We can only hope the Masoods may one day return!
