Former EastEnders actress Shona McGarty has taken to Instagram to tease her next project.
After portraying the renowned character Whitney Dean on EastEnders for a remarkable 16-year tenure, McGarty decided to depart the series last year to delve into “diverse prospects and unexplored aspects of the entertainment sector.” Now, we’re thrilled to catch a glimpse of the projects she has been dedicating her time and talent to.
In a new Instagram snap, McGarty can be seen in the studio recording new music.
It’s been verified on social platforms that she’s collaborating with music producer Steve Anderson. In his past projects, he’s teamed up with artists such as Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, and Westlife, contributing to chart-toppers like Take That’s “Never Forget” in the 90s.
McGarty mentioned that those were the two most memorable days she spent in the studio, working alongside Anderson on recording a few songs.
She continued: “It felt so good getting back behind the mic and dusting off the ol’vocals again.”
Previously, the actress from EastEnders has stood before a microphone on several occasions. Back in 2012, she sang a cover of A Change Is Gonna Come for Children in Need. Additionally, in 2018, she teamed up with The Celebs supergroup to record Rock with Rudolph as another charity single.
Apart from her music endeavors, it’s been confirmed that McGarty will be appearing in a unique performance on the West End. This special event will see her honoring the iconic figure known as the ‘queen of pin-ups’, Bettie Page.
Regarding the creation process, she expressed her enthusiasm by saying, “I’m thrilled to have been chosen for this chance to breathe life into your tale. I aspire to honor your captivating character and the inspiring narrative you’ve shared.
Whitney, portrayed by McGarthy, made a shocking exit from EastEnders following the revelation that her partner, Zack Hudson (played by James Farrar), had been unfaithful to her with her close friend Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa).
1. The harrowing ordeal of child sexual abuse inflicted by Tony King (portrayed by Chris Coghill).
2. The tumultuous marital dissolution with Lee Carter (played by Danny-Boy Hatchard), culminating in a tragic miscarriage.
3. Her chilling encounter as a victim of stalking.
Since wrapping up my role on that series last year, I’ve found myself swamped with projects and opportunities, all of which align perfectly with the paths I’ve been eager to explore since making my television debut more than a decade back. As a passionate cinephile, I relish every moment of this creative journey.
