EastEnders’ Linda Carter’s life at risk in early BBC iPlayer cliffhanger

As a long-time fan of EastEnders who has witnessed the tumultuous lives of the Carter family unfold over the years, I must say that this latest turn of events for Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) is nothing short of heart-wrenching. The character’s struggle with alcohol and her involvement in the murder of Keanu Taylor have created a perfect storm of tension, culminating in a potentially life-threatening situation.

“Caution: Reveals plot points from the August 13th, 2024 episode of EastEnders, now streaming on BBC iPlayer.”

Kellie Bright’s character, Linda Carter, found herself in a dangerous situation during the recent EastEnders episode. However, we’re left wondering what led to this unexpected twist in her storyline.

Due to the menacing threats Linda faced following the murder of Keanu Taylor (played by Danny Walters), a crime she had indeed committed, her already fragile composure crumbled, leading her to seek solace in alcohol once more.

Simultaneously, Keanu’s sister Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) was taken aback when Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) ended their partnership. This happened because their blackmail led to a drunk Linda disrupting her pre-trial meeting, making it less likely that Dean would be found innocent of the murder.

In the end, Johnny (Charlie Suff) was on the verge of exhaustion when Linda was removed from being a witness for the prosecution. He felt disheartened upon discovering Linda passed out drunk at the kitchen table.

Under the influence of alcohol, Linda accused Johnny of preventing her from accepting Dean’s latest offer, all the while shedding blame instead of responsibility. Meanwhile, Johnny reacted defensively when Sharon Watts expressed concerns about the potential repercussions for herself.

In this scenario, Gina Knight, also known as Francesca Henry, assured that she would look after Linda. Meanwhile, Johnny was employing his legal expertise to find a solution to the problem. This conversation was overheard by Bernie, who continued to focus on his beer at the bar, determined to bring justice for Keanu.

In simpler terms, after Gina conveyed her understanding of an addict’s mindset, Johnny appealed to Prosecutor Carryl Thomas to consider using Linda as a witness, disregarding the events of the previous day that had turned sour.

At The Queen Vic, Bernie showed up distressed, requesting a private conversation with Linda. Gina departed, held back momentarily due to an argument with her sister Anna Knight (Moly Rainford).

In a bid to calm herself with alcohol, Bernie offered a bottle and pretended it was for her own consumption. Meanwhile, she secretly added more vodka to Linda’s drink. As she spoke, she narrated Linda’s account of the situation.

Demonstrating an apparent comprehension of Sharon’s fury toward Keanu’s actions prior to his demise, Bernie commended Linda’s bravery in light of everything that transpired, but clarified that she remained puzzled about Dean’s role during the events of Christmas night.

As Linda appeared shaken and started apologizing to Bernie, Bernie gently placed her hand on Linda’s, expressing relief that Linda was finally letting go of her burden – at about the same time, Johnny walked in.

Johnny was enraged to discover that Gina had permitted Linda to be with Bernie and they were drinking together. As a result, Bernie left the area hastily.

In her private room, Linda held a bottle of vodka tightly, while Johnny shared the news that he’d managed to reinstate her as a witness – but only if Linda agreed to seek treatment at a rehabilitation center.

Linda expressed that she didn’t have the strength due to Johnny providing her with an alcoholic beverage prior to the pre-trial discussion. Enraged by Linda’s outburst, Johnny exclaimed his desire for Linda to have perished instead of Danny Dyer (Johnny’s father).

In solitude and with a shattered heart, Linda took sips from her bottle, as Sharon shared with Johnny that his mother indeed had a fortunate son like him.

Upon Johnny’s return to find Linda, she was struggling to breathe on the bed. With Gina taking charge, she instructed Johnny to summon an ambulance, leaving us to wonder if Linda would pull through.

What caused this sudden medical crisis? Was it because Bernie tampered with the vodka bottle, potentially leading to Linda’s poisoning?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
