EastEnders’ Penny Branning makes furious vow in early iPlayer release

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for gritty British drama, I must say that the latest episode of EastEnders left me absolutely flabbergasted! The intricate web of deceit and family dynamics unfolding at Walford’s very own Queen Vic is as captivating as a classic Agatha Christie mystery.

In Walford, detective Jack Branning (played by Scott Maslen) isn’t likely to receive a “Father of the Year” award, especially from his oldest daughter Penny (portrayed by Kitty Castledine).

When Denise Fox (Diane Parish) confessed that her daughter, Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams), was responsible for the accident at Peggy’s, a fury erupted between Penny and Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd), her injured younger half-sister, as they vented their anger over Chelsea’s self-centered actions.

As the police continued their investigation into Penny’s innocence, Chelsea ultimately chose to surrender to authorities for her own wrongdoing.

Following her farewell to their son Jordan, Chelsea requested Jack and Denise to take her to the hospital as they headed towards the train station.

Chelsea felt relieved when she learned that a survivor from the car crash had woken up from their coma, which meant she hadn’t been responsible for anyone’s demise.

However, as Denise was deeply troubled by Chelsea’s predicament and emphasized their shared secret from Christmas Day’s homicide, Jack found himself reconsidering his choice to let Chelsea confront the consequences of her actions.

At the Branning residence, Jack suggested that it was improbable Penny would be charged, and proposed a family ballot to determine between Penny and Chelsea who should assume responsibility for the nightclub incident.

They reacted with the same disbelief as Penny and her cousin Lauren Branning (played by Jacqueline Jossa), who was still grappling with persistent pain due to the traumatic incidents that had occurred.

Initially, the vote was evenly divided at 50%, but when Jack chose to let Penny face the authorities, it was to safeguard Chelsea’s well-being!

Initially, Penny decided to personally inform the police about someone, but then hesitated upon spotting Chelsea with child Jordan. Instead, she communicated her decision to her father via a message that read, “Your wish prevails,” leaving Jack and Denise feeling at ease.

However, inside The Queen Vic, Penny simmered with frustration as she confided in Lauren that once more, Jack seemed to indicate he held little importance for her in his life.

As Penny vowed to ruin Jack for his latest actions, what will her next move be?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
