EastEnders’ Sharon faces new blow ahead of trial in early iPlayer release

As a seasoned movie critic with decades of watching soap operas under my belt, I must admit that the latest episode of EastEnders has left me quite intrigued. The plot twist involving Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Bernie (Clair Norris) is reminiscent of a classic whodunit film, albeit with a dash of Albert Square drama.

Head’s up! This content might reveal plot twists from the EastEnders episode that aired on iPlayer on the 29th of August, 2024. Proceed with caution if you haven’t watched it yet and want to avoid spoilers.

Today in EastEnders, Sharon Watts (portrayed by Letitia Dean) experienced a challenging day, as Bernie (played by Clair Norris) persistently tormented her regarding the death of Keanu (acted by Danny Walters).

It’s common knowledge among viewers that his death wasn’t actually caused by Sharon, as portrayed in the storyline; instead, it was Linda (played by Kellie Bright) who fatally stabbed him on Christmas Day in reality.

However, if Sharon is accountable for any action, it’s her part in concealing Linda’s secret, a secret shared among The Six who were present during that critical evening.

As Dean (Matt Di Angelo) prepares for his murder trial, Keanu’s sister has remained skeptical about his guilt and is eager to uncover the truth behind the incident.

She’s been attempting to intimidate Sharon by threatening her, with the result that she’s causing quite a bit of internal distress, largely succeeding in doing so.

Externally, though, Sharon has remained strong – and even tried to haul in Bernie for a chat.

Nevertheless, Bernie, deeply saddened by the loss of her brother, remains steadfast in her beliefs.

After attempting to soothe herself with a glass of wine after the argument, Sharon’s peace was disturbed by a noise coming from outside her residence.

As soon as she stepped out, Bernie splattered her with a bucketful of red paint which he’d previously utilized to scribble the word “murderer” on his door.

Bernie proceeded to shout, catching the attention of Albert Square: “Sharon Watts is a murderer!”

It wasn’t hard to notice a resemblance to an iconic moment when Peggy Mitchell accused Chrissie Watts of being a murderer… Given that the antagonist is returning to the Square soon, could this scene hint at a connection between her and “The Six”?

And how will Sharon cope at Dean’s trial, having been completely rattled?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
