EastEnders Shock: Zack’s Fate Revealed After Dramatic Lake Rescue

heads up: The storyline revealed in tonight’s EastEnders episode on BBC One and BBC iPlayer (May 29, 2025) could be considered significant plot twists.

In the most recent episode of EastEnders, it’s been definitively revealed what happens to Zack Hudson, portrayed by James Farrar.

Following the kidnapping of Zack by Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway), who swore to prevent Zack from taking his biological son, Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman), away from him, Teddy (Roland Manookian), Harry’s father, intervened to rescue Zack.

However, Zack believed Teddy intended to harm him, so he seized the steering wheel, causing them to veer off the road and fall into the lake instead.

Teddy managed to escape without any harm, but him and Harry believed Zack might have drowned. They went back to Walford to inform Phil Mitchell, played by Steve McFadden.

Instead of taking action to verify more about Zack or contacting authorities for a search, Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) fiercely questioned Harry, Teddy, and Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) once she found out the news.

Vicki first disclosed Barney as the teenager’s father to the bewildered youth. Later, she revealed that Barney’s mother, Nicola, had committed murder.

In order to end the deception, Teddy admitted to Barney that Zack is indeed his father. The two then had a touching, intimate conversation, brilliantly portrayed by actors Bridgeman and Manookian.

Teddy vowed to forever be Barney’s father, but Barney felt overloaded and decided to take a stroll. This led him to find himself at the residence that Zack and Vicki share, along with their sibling Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).

At the bar, Nicola confessed to Harry that, indeed, she was responsible for the death of his pregnant partner, Shireen Bashar. This confession came after Nicola had shared Barney’s father’s secret with her, a secret that Shireen intended to disclose.

In the meantime, while Barney was adjusting to things, Zack, soaking wet but clearly alive and energetic, entered the house.

As a dedicated cinephile, I’d crossed the lake to dodge the Mitchells, and when Phil shared that Teddy was attempting to aid me instead of mocking me, Zack showed his disapproval.

With just Barney around, Zack uneasily shared his version of the incidents. However, when Zack revealed that Nicola had instigated the assault on him, and that she was a murderer, Barney found it too much to bear.

Zack became frantic in his efforts to safeguard Barney, which escalated into a frenzy. On the street, their circumstances culminated, leading to a physical altercation between Teddy and Zack.

Nicola put a stop to the fisticuffs, urging Barney to speak up about what he truly wanted.

Barney desired things to get back to the way they once were, and Harry reluctantly consented to travel home with him, along with Teddy and Nicola.

When Barney proposed playing a board game even though it was late, it helped break the tension within the group of four.

But is Harry really so willing to forgive and forget?
