⚠️ Heed this notice: Discussions ahead may reveal plot points from the EastEnders episode slated for release on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers!
In the long-running soap opera, EastEnders, viewers have learned the verdict of Sonia Fowler’s (played by Natalie Cassidy) murder case: both positive and negative aspects are involved.
Sonia was wrongly implicated in the death of Debbie Colwell, her fiancé Reiss’ wife.)
But Reiss himself actually suffocated Debbie so he could claim her life insurance!
The murderer has imprisoned Patsy Palmer, who is Sonia’s sister, Bianca Jackson, to prevent her from revealing his identity. When Bianca recorded a false confession for the murder, Reiss vowed to set her free.
Reiss burst into the courtroom to present fresh evidence, but this didn’t stop Sonia’s trial. Instead, he gave a juror the video, hoping it would guarantee Sonia’s release. In a strange way, he asked for forgiveness in advance for actions he might still perform.
The locals were surprised when tense Reiss fiercely criticized them for doubting Bianca’s statement. (or)
The locals were shocked when agitated Reiss sternly reproached them for challenging Bianca’s confession. (or)
The locals were startled when aggravated Reiss sharply rebuked them for disputing Bianca’s admission.
In the end, there was joy among Sonia’s devoted friends and relatives when she was declared ‘not guilty’, but Brenda Collins (played by Nichola McAuliffe) was enraged instead.
As a film enthusiast, I found myself being convinced by the charm of the moment to raise a glass with Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth) and Martin Fowler (James Bye), amidst our joyous celebration.
However, at The Queen Vic, Reiss became uneasy as the conversation steered towards Bianca, and Sonia requested to view the video – a video which Reiss had asserted he no longer possessed a copy of.
Reiss urged Sonia to come home for a quiet night with him, and she agreed.
But things soon took another sinister turn when Reiss headed to tell Bianca the news about Sonia.
Bianca was delighted that her strategy had worked, yet Reiss cautioned that he wasn’t confident she wouldn’t seek retribution.
He stated that Bianca hadn’t benefited Sonia, and thus, in his distorted thinking, there was no other option than to keep B exactly where she was.
She urgently begged Reiss not to continue keeping her shackled any more, yet as he departed, Bianca wept despairingly, worrying that she might perish all by herself within the cell.
At home, Sonia experienced gratitude toward Bianca for standing up for her, yet Reiss was insistent that what he said wasn’t a fabrication, encouraging her to trust that Bianca truly did kill Debbie.
Sonia expressed that, under these circumstances, she felt even more urgently the need to meet with Bianca. However, it remains unclear whether she’ll understand that Reiss is the one orchestrating everything.
Or will someone else spot his erratic behaviour and put two and two together?
