As a seasoned viewer of British soap operas, I must admit that EastEnders has been serving up a veritable feast of drama lately. The twisted tale of Reiss Colwell and his web of deceit is nothing short of riveting.
Next week on EastEnders, Jonny Freeman, portrayed by Reiss Colwell, finds himself ensnared in yet another deception. However, the question arises: for how much longer can he conceal his troubling behavior from his partner Sonia Fowler (played by Natalie Cassidy)?
A month ago, Reiss cruelly asphyxiated his comatose wife Debbie (Jenny Meier), intending to collect on her life insurance policy to pay off his outstanding debts. In the interim, Sonia discovered she was pregnant with Reiss’s child, having utilized Debbie’s funds for their IVF treatments together.
In a clandestine move at the mortuary, Reiss discreetly removed Debbie’s engagement ring from her finger. Later, he employed this ring in proposing to Sonia. To explain away its absence and have it resized, he feigned a mugging incident!
Instead, Reiss chose to pass the ring on to Eve Unwin (Heather Peace), who used it to propose to partner Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal)!
Eventually, it was Suki who managed to arrange their engagement, leaving Sonia under the impression that her ring had been misplaced. Meanwhile, Sonia remains in sorrow, unable to share her ring with her cousin Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd), as she believes it has been stolen.
Afterward, Sonia encounters Eve and Suki, and notices Suki sporting what appears to be her, or actually Debbie’s, ring. Eve defends Reiss by stating that she purchased the ring from a second-hand store.
However, when Sonia decides to investigate the issue, Reiss finds himself in a tight spot. Will he confess the truth, if only about the staged mugging?
As the week unfolds, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) calls upon Reiss at the Boxing Den and insists that he settles the debt from his ‘investment’ plan by next Monday.
While Reiss becomes entangled in complex situations, for how long will it take until his violent act against innocent Debbie gets exposed?
EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday 12th August.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
