EastEnders star Louisa Lytton lands all-new role away from Walford’s Ruby Allen

As a longtime devotee of the silver screen and small, having witnessed Louisa Lytton‘s transformative portrayal of Ruby Allen on EastEnders, I find myself eagerly anticipating her upcoming role in The Girl on the Train stage adaptation. With her extensive experience on both television and stage, it’s clear that she is more than equipped to tackle the complexities of Rachel Watson.

After playing the character of Ruby Allen again on EastEnders, actress Louisa Lytton is poised to step into a completely fresh role, departing Albert Square and venturing beyond the realm of TV.

It’s official that Lytton will take on her next role, appearing in a live-action stage version of “The Girl on the Train,” set to travel across the United Kingdom starting from Chester’s Storyhouse Theatre in April 2025.

In the upcoming adaptation, James Lytton is set to portray Rachel Watson, a character previously brought to life by Emily Blunt in the 2016 thriller movie, which featured an ensemble cast including Luke Evans, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, and Justin Theroux.

Absolutely, the movie and its stage adaptation share a common origin – the popular novel “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins, published in 2015. The story revolves around Rachel, a woman who observes a seemingly ideal couple from her train window during her daily commute after her divorce, creating an intriguing narrative.

However, once Rachel’s wife disappears, she gets drawn into the ensuing investigation, uncovering issues of her own along the way.

Indeed, Lytton’s character is quite substantial given she initially graced EastEnders screens in 2005 and has periodically reappeared in the cherished series ever since.

Previously seen on the stage, the actress in question has graced it before, with past roles including Sleeping Beauty, Boogie Nights, 2:22 A Ghost Story, and Cinderella.

Starting from a certain point, Lytton will assume the main part in The Girl on the Train that was previously held by Giovanna Fletcher. Later on, in June 2025, the baton will be handed over to Laura Whitmore, who will then play the role.

All in all, Rachel will be portrayed by Lytton in Chester, Woking, Birmingham, Southend, Liverpool, Leicester, and Cardiff.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the production will see Daniel Burke, taking on the role of Kamal Abdic; Zena Carswell stepping into Anna Watson; Samuel Collings as Scott Hipwell; Natalie Dunne as Megan Hipwell; Paul McEwan portraying DI Gaskill; and Jason Merrells bringing Tom Watson to life, until 29th March 2025. Further casting details will be announced in due time.
