EastEnders’ Tracy-Ann Oberman teases possible death twist for Sharon and Chrissie

As a seasoned soap opera enthusiast with decades of viewing under my belt, I must admit that the recent twist in EastEnders has left me utterly spellbound! The reunion between Sharon and Chrissie promises to be a rollercoaster ride filled with emotions, unresolved conflicts, and perhaps even a dash of sisterly bonding.

Well, no one was expecting that EastEnders twist!

Tonight’s episode on the 5th of September offers a hint about an encounter between Sharon, played by Letitia Dean, and Chrissie Watts, portrayed by Tracy-Ann Oberman, within the confines of prison

Viewers are aware that Sharon is currently incarcerated for seven days due to contempt of court. However, she faces more serious issues since she’s keeping the deadly secret about Keanu Taylor’s demise, which bears striking similarities to Chrissie’s criminal act

As a devoted cinephile, I eagerly anticipate the unfolding of events between these characters. Will there be space for reconciliation or will tensions escalate? The possibilities are endless, and Oberman tantalizingly hints at what lies ahead for the complicated relationship between the stepmother and her daughter

In a recent interview with the BBC, Oberman described their reunion between Sharon and Chrissie as an emotional rollercoaster

Initially, their bond was incredibly strong, yet a tragic turn of events unfolded when Chrissie took her father’s life in secret and deceived her about it. Despite this betrayal, there was mutual trust and deep understanding between them

“I think all the emotions will be present – love, jealousy, hatred, passion, joy and revenge.

“What’s uncertain this week is whether there will be a solution to the current situation. Will they both survive this ordeal and find some resolution? It’s hard to say…”

When asked about their plans for the first reunion, Oberman was careful not to reveal any details

“It’s the meeting of two strong Watts women, but 19 years have elapsed,” she explained.

“Does Chrissie appear happy to see a familiar, friendly figure, or has she harbored resentment for the past two decades over how Sharon prevented her from leaving with Jake, whom she deeply loved?”

Next week’s episodes will reveal the consequences of Chrissie’s comeback to Albert Square, as the BBC soap keeps mum about the surprises awaiting Chrissie and the impact her return may have on Walford

From the initial images of Chrissie and Sharon’s meeting, it seems they didn’t start things smoothly; however, the atmosphere during Oberman and Dean’s reunion was quite different

“Tish [Letitia Dean] is a joy,” said Oberman.

She added: “We were quite connected twenty years back, but life leads us along diverse routes, which meant we hadn’t crossed paths much since then.”

“We both looked at each other after a couple of scenes and went, ‘Wow, this is really good.’

“Our collaboration is seamless and enjoyable. We put in a tremendous amount of effort, yet our camaraderie is marked by frequent laughter. She brings so much joy to the table, and I truly appreciate her.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
