Ed Sheeran keeps his love in these photographs.
Over the past ten years, he’s been using only emails instead of a phone. However, due to his recent court case, he was compelled to reactivate his phone again to use it as proof.
After being declared innocent in the copyright case, Ed has been sifting through the data saved on the old cell phone and posting it on an Instagram account named Teddy’s Old Phone.
One reminiscent moment, posted by Ed on April 2nd, showcased a photo of him, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan from One Direction, along with Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris who were together at the time.
“2015 billboard awards,” Ed captioned the post. “i’m dribbly drunk at this point.”
In this scene, the “Thinking Out Loud” singer is seen holding a drink, wearing a fedora and chains. Meanwhile, Niall flaunts a plastic sword while donning a crown, and Taylor stands next to Calvin, who wears an animal mask on his head, with a long silver instrument by his side.
Or, more casually:
In the picture, Ed Sheeran is holding a drink and sporting a fedora and chains. Niall has a plastic sword and a crown, while Taylor poses with a long silver gadget next to Calvin, who’s wearing a mask that looks like an animal head.
I couldn’t help but share that very post, along with another selfie Ed posted showcasing Niall, on my Story, expressing “Love ya” in response. Simply put, I can’t get enough of the One Direction legend!
While Taylor, who parted ways with Calvin in June 2016 after less than two years, pops up in a couple of posts on their account. In the second update, a noticeably younger Ed and Taylor appear, with Ed playfully sticking out his tongue at the camera in this shared post.
As he captioned the photo, “Always pulled a face in a selfie, this pic was no different.”
However, although this page offers an abundance of unique recollections and instances – such as a photograph of Ed with Bill Clinton, which he explains was taken during a poker game between them, alongside his prom appearance at 16 years old – there’s a sense of nostalgia and poignancy that hasn’t been overlooked by the Grammy-winning artist.
To give an example, Ed mentioned that the initial text on his cell phone was from Jamal Edwards, a friend of his who sadly passed away in 2022, as well as one from a relative they are no longer in contact with.
Ed expressed in a post that turning on the device left him feeling disoriented, as he spent time scrolling through messages and conversations with individuals who are no longer alive. He admitted to shedding tears over messages from deceased friends, knowing he will never have the chance to communicate with them again. He also found old photos of himself with people he was once very close to, but with whom he’s since lost contact. The overall experience was a deeply emotional rollercoaster for him.
To put it simply, the emotion-packed event inspired Ed to pen down his upcoming track, “Old Phone.
This track seems like one that should’ve been included in my first release, yet it’s a song I couldn’t have composed until I went through some authentic life experiences,” he mentioned. “When I perform it, it stirs emotions within me, and I hope it does the same for you. Perhaps it prompts you to dust off your old phone and revisit where you were a decade ago.
