As a lifelong admirer and follower of Ed Wheeler‘s illustrious career, I find myself deeply saddened by the news of his passing. Having grown up watching him light up the screens with his captivating performances, it is hard to believe that the man who brought such vibrancy and life to my television has left us.


Family and friends are mourning the loss of veteran actor Ed Wheeler.

The well-known actor from Hollywood, who had recently been seen on popular TV shows such as Law & Order, Blue Bloods, and One Life to Live, passed away this past summer at the age of 88. This was confirmed by his wife, Messeret Stroman Wheeler, to Deadline on September 7.

Stroman Wheeler announced that her long-term spouse sadly passed away on August 21st at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey, following complications from pneumonia that led to respiratory failure.

Additionally, she paid tribute on Instagram this week to the deceased actor, who is known for roles in films such as Presumed Innocent, Head of State, The Good Guy, Daylight, Godzilla (1998), Broadcast News, and Mickey Blue Eyes.

I regretfully announce the passing of my husband, Ed Wheeler,” Stroman Wheeler posted on September 7th. “In remembrance of my beloved spouse, I want to express how you illuminated every corner of my life and those who had the pleasure of knowing you with your lightness, laughter, and love. Your skill, devotion, and enthusiasm were exceptional, whether you were performing on stage, in front of the camera, or working behind the scenes. From national advertisements to the highly respected Negro Ensemble Company, you left an indelible mark and were deeply appreciated.

Speaking of Wheeler, he was a beacon of guidance, a pillar of support, and the essence of my affection. We constructed our lives and generated art side by side, and his influence will endure as an inspiration. The absence of your voice, your insights, and your kindness will forever leave an emptiness in me.

At the end, Stroman Wheeler expressed gratitude towards her friends, relatives, and followers for their love and encouragement during these challenging moments.
