The movie adaptation of Wright’s “The Running Man” is set to premiere in early November, with filming commencing last autumn. Previously adapted in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film, this new version, as explained by Wright, deviates significantly from its predecessor and aligns more closely with the original Stephen King novel. According to Powell, the latest “Running Man” will adopt a more realistic atmosphere.

In the movie “The Running Man,” Powell plays Ben Richards, a character who enters a perilous game show in an attempt to earn enough money for his child’s medical care. The film also features Colman Domingo, Katy O’Brian, Josh Brolin, and Michael Cera, with Wright collaborating with Michael Bacall on the screenplay, taking on both directing and scriptwriting roles.

It’s exciting that “The Running Man” has finished filming, as this suggests it should stay on schedule for its autumn release. Director Wright will have a lot on his plate with post-production work in the coming months, but if Paramount moved the film’s release date slightly forward, they must be optimistic about meeting the deadline. Interestingly, Wright is set to attend CinemaCon next week along with some of “The Running Man” cast, so we might learn more details then. Since filming has only just ended, it might be premature for a public teaser, but it wouldn’t be unusual if some footage was shown at CinemaCon. At the very least, people can get an idea of Wright’s plans based on the reactions to whatever is displayed.

The pairing of Wright and Powell could potentially be a powerful duo at the cinema. Powell’s rise to fame can be attributed to hits like “Anyone But You” and “Twisters,” which raked in an impressive $372.3 million worldwide last year. Meanwhile, Wright boasts the critically acclaimed blockbuster “Baby Driver,” which earned $226.9 million worldwide. Although “Last Night in Soho” underperformed, with only $23 million globally, this can be mainly attributed to the pandemic’s impact on cinemas. With the added appeal of the Stephen King brand, “The Running Man” could become a success later this year.
