If you’ve enjoyed the Tom Cruise-led science fiction film “Edge of Tomorrow,” or haven’t seen it yet, prepare for its source material – the novel “All You Need is Kill” by Yoshitoshi Abe and Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Excitingly, this book is now being adapted into an anime, and it promises to be visually stunning. Both the American film and the new anime are based on the light novel, which was initially published in 2004 by Shueisha, with Viz Media translating the influential sci-fi story into English. Later, in 2014, the light novel was adapted into a manga by Takeshi Obata and Ryosuke Takeuchi.
Warner Bros. Japan is working on the new anime movie adaptation of “All You Need is Kill,” with STUDIO4°C taking charge of the animation. Notably, this studio has previously worked on the “Berserk: The Golden Age Arc” film trilogy, as well as other projects like “Detroit Metal City” and “Tekkonkinkreet.” Additionally, they’ve collaborated with notable entities such as DC for projects like “Batman: Gotham Knight” and “Halo Legends.
In the narrative penned by Viz Media, we follow Keiji Kiriya, who finds himself in a world overtaken by alien Mimics. As part of an army, he’s equipped with combat armor known as a Jacket and sent to battle. Remarkably, each day sees him die on the battlefield only to be reborn again. In his 158th resurgence, he receives a message from a secret ally—a female soldier famously known as the Full Metal Bitch. Will this enigmatic figure aid Keiji in his quest for freedom or mark his final demise?
All You Need is Kill‘s New Anime Looks Stunning
Apart from revealing their upcoming anime movie, STUDIO4°C has also unveiled the first teaser trailer for the live-action adaptation of the film “All You Need is Kill“. Known for their stunning animation, mind-bending visuals, and exhilarating action sequences in previous projects, this studio is expected to deliver another masterpiece. Directed by Kenichiro Akimoto, who has previously worked on CG and storyboards for “Berserk: The Golden Age Arc” and served as the CGI director on “Children of the Sea“, the film promises a visually stunning and action-packed ride.
After the announcement, director Kenichiro Akimoto expressed his delight at being part of the animated film version of this remarkable novel. Eager to contribute to this project, which has been previously adapted into a manga and a Hollywood movie, he aspires to elevate its worth even more with STUDIO4°C’s distinctive visual style. Furthermore, he hopes that audiences will discover a glimmer of life’s inspiration amidst their routine lives.
All You Need is Kill’s Anime Movie Will Differ Significantly From Edge of Tomorrow
Instead of approaching “All You Need is Kill” with the expectation of another rendition, though elegantly animated, of the same narrative, be prepared for a fresh take on the Mimic invasion. Although specific details about the movie’s plot are yet to be revealed by the producers, Anime News Network has confirmed that this new anime film will narrate the story from a unique angle compared to the novel and the movie adaptation of “Edge of Tomorrow.
At this time, we don’t have a confirmed release date for the anime movie “All You Need is Kill” from STUDIO4°C. Keep an eye out for future announcements in the upcoming months.
