Eidos Montreal, the team behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, has shared on LinkedIn that they are implementing job cuts affecting 75 employees. The company stated that this difficult decision was necessary due to an inability to redistribute these staff members to different areas within the studio.
On LinkedIn today, our studio announced that they may have to release up to 75 valued team members because one of our projects is wrapping up. This decision doesn’t reflect on their commitment or abilities, but regrettably, we don’t currently have the resources to fully redistribute them across our other active ventures and initiatives.
We’re helping a group of exceptionally skilled and seasoned professionals as they prepare to join the workforce.
Eidos-Montréal assures that they will continue working on their current projects even amidst the layoffs, as stated in a post.
In recent developments, another round of job cuts resembles the one we experienced approximately a year and a half ago. To be precise, back in January 2024, Eidos made an announcement about letting go of 97 staff members from various departments such as development, support services, and administration.
In a previous statement, our studio acknowledged that the current global economic climate, industry-specific challenges, and Embracer’s restructuring plan have ultimately affected us. Consequently, we regretfully announced a significant reduction in workforce, affecting 97 individuals from various teams including development, administration, and support services.
At this point, we’re unsure about the current project of the studio, but we do know that they were assisting Microsoft’s exclusive developer, Playground Games, with the development of Fable as of June 2024.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that we’re helping bring Fable to life! Working alongside the brilliant minds at [Playground Games] has been an exhilarating journey, shaping an epic tale that promises to leave a lasting impression.
There were whispers as far back as November 2022 suggesting that Eidos Montreal could be developing a new title within the Deus Ex series. However, this hasn’t been officially verified yet. Additionally, a game project inspired by Stranger Things was rumored to exist, but it appears it has been scrapped.
