Eileen Grimshaw Quits Coronation Street!

*Warning: Spoilers for Friday 6th June’s episode, available on ITVX.*

In the episode of Coronation Street airing on June 6th, 2025, we bid a fond farewell to Eileen Grimshaw (portrayed by Sue Cleaver). The streets of Weatherfield will certainly miss her presence.

Eileen, along with her oldest son Jason (Ryan Thomas), and partner George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), had been given an invitation to relocate to Thailand. As a prelude to this potential move, they decided to take a trip there first to get a feel for the place before making a decision.

But it’s been clear for some time that this couple weren’t destined for a happy ever after.

In the heart of the latest film screening, I find myself fixed on Eileen, her brow furrowed in contemplation as Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) confides in his daughter, Millie, about his desire to be with Todd (Gareth Pierce), and follow his personal truth.

In an attempt to find solace, George shares his romantic concerns with Steve McDonald, who happens to be both Eileen’s boss and close friend.

Steve stays tight-lipped, and George realises Steve knows more than he’s letting on.

Afterward, Eileen receives a call to head to the police station. Upon arrival, she learns that they won’t be pursuing any charges related to the demise of her half-sister, Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh-Jupe).

The news arrives following several weeks of doubt, during which it was uncovered that Julie had ingested an overdose of Eileen’s prescription painkillers.

While discussing with George, Eileen shares some insights about their upcoming plans. To discover what’s happening between them, make sure to catch up with them either on ITVX or tune in to ITV at 8 pm.

No matter what occurs, Eileen is set to bid farewell to the cobblestones tonight as she chooses to make her vacation an indefinite relocation instead.

During their heartwarming interaction with Todd, Eileen receives a touching gesture from Steve, Tim Metcalfe, Joe Duttine, and the taxi drivers.

Following many years of working at the taxi dispatch center, we’re definitely going to miss Eileen’s sharp glances towards her superiors and her quick wit when speaking over the radio.

Over and out, Eileen!
