Elden Ring Alone Eclipses Combined Dark Souls Series' Sales

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen trends come and go, but Elden Ring has left an indelible mark that’s hard to erase. From the Dark Souls series to now, this game has been a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. The numbers speak for themselves – over 28.6 million copies sold! That’s more than just a few friends playing together; it’s a global community of souls intertwined in the world of Elden Ring.

Before the launch of Elden Ring, the Dark Souls series (consisting of Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, Dark Souls III, their DLC, re-releases, and remasters) had collectively sold an astounding 27 million units and was arguably one of the most impactful games of the past decade. Daniel Ahmad, director of research and insights at Niko Partners, shared an interesting tidbit: Elden Ring, published by Bandai Namco, has surpassed 28.6 million copies sold as of September 2024. This represents a rise of 3.6 million units from the figures announced in June, coinciding with Shadow of the Erdtree’s release on the 21st of that month.
