Elden Ring Dev Doesn't Currently Know What's Happening with Sony Acquisition

As a lifelong fan of FromSoftware games, I must admit that the rumors of Sony potentially acquiring Kadokawa have sent waves of excitement and curiosity through my gaming community. The thought of having more Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring under the PlayStation umbrella is a tantalizing prospect.

Sony is set to acquire Kadokawa Corporation, the extensive Japanese media company that operates in numerous sectors such as gaming, manga, and anime. One of its prominent subsidiaries is FromSoftware, a company that has had a long-standing partnership with PlayStation on projects like Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne.

Following the unveiling of co-operative game Elden Ring: Nightreign, players and enthusiasts alike are speculating about the potential impact on FromSoftware, a studio based in Tokyo. However, as stated by game director Junya Ishizaki himself, there’s still uncertainty regarding what this acquisition may entail for the company’s future.

He stated to IGN that as of now, we’re unsure about the current state of the conversation, whether it’s happening or not, we don’t have access to that information.

It appears that both Sony and Kadokawa have disclosed that negotiations are ongoing. Employees from Kadokawa have hinted at their readiness for this potential agreement, pointing out their current management’s shortcomings as a motivation for seeking change.

Despite the risk that negotiations might fall apart, it’s worth noting that Kadokawa’s business strategy closely matches Sony’s present objectives, and this has led to an all-time high in Kadokawa’s share prices due to ongoing discussions.

It’s our belief that this deal will ultimately be completed, given Sony’s previous investments in both Kadokawa and FromSoftware. We don’t foresee this as a sign that multi-platform releases for franchises like Elden Ring will cease, though; instead, we anticipate Sony to maintain a relatively hands-off approach if the acquisition is finalized.
