The game titled “Elden Ring Nightreign” represents an unusual shift for FromSoftware’s Soulsborne series, as it morphs the traditional structure into a multiplayer-focused roguelite experience. While you can embark on your journey alone in “Nightreing“, solo adventures may be worthwhile if you’re prepared to face a considerable challenge. However, it’s evident that the game is primarily intended for groups of three players. Just as with any multiplayer game, there are some implicit guidelines you should adhere to if you aspire to be a reliable teammate and boost your chances of vanquishing the Nightlord.
Unfortunately, Nightreign doesn’t offer voice chat functionality or crossplay support, splitting the playerbase among PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms. It’s puzzling that a cooperative game like this lacks voice chat, as it has been absent in previous FromSoftware titles as well. Finding compatible players can be tricky at times, but after a few missions, you should have a good understanding of your objectives, and most teammates will know their roles. Here are some tips to work effectively with your team:
1. Communication is key! Use text chat or gestures to convey your intentions to your team.
2. Coordinate your movements and strategies to maximize efficiency and minimize confusion.
3. Be patient and understanding, especially when working with new players.
4. If you encounter any issues or need assistance, don’t hesitate to ask for help from your teammates.
5. Remember that everyone is there to enjoy the game, so maintain a positive attitude and be respectful of others.
6. Take advantage of any in-game tools or resources that can aid communication and collaboration among team members.
7. Finally, have fun! Working together with others can enhance your gaming experience and make the journey more enjoyable.
10. Don’t Be A Loot Vacuum
Not Every Item Will Help You
Regardless of not having constant contact with your occasional teammates, it’s the most polite action to allow them some time to pick up items. While leveling up quickly is crucial at the onset, securing useful items immediately in the game’s opening moments can significantly boost your team’s chances early on. Each piece of gear comes with a passive bonus, so distributing items among your teammates early can provide an advantage right from the start.
In Nightreign, all acquired loot is evenly distributed among the group, except for Dormant Power which is exclusively dropped by bosses. This special item allows you to pick one of three individual rewards tailored to your character. Therefore, whenever you open a chest or smash a container for items, they should be distributed among everyone. If an item doesn’t suit your character’s abilities, it’s usually wise to leave it behind and let someone else claim it if they find it useful.
9. Ping Where You Want To Go & Confirm Others’ Pings So They Know You Agree
Voice Chat Can’t Help You With Randoms In Limveld
It’s usually fine to express your ideas about where to go next, since others might be eagerly anticipating a suggestion too. A simple ping won’t offend anyone. Whether you want to visit the Church of Marika for an additional flask charge or decide to fight a specific boss because it aligns with the Nightlords’ weakness, just drop a ping. At worst, someone else might suggest a different location.
In a more straightforward manner, responding to someone else’s ping can foster team unity. All you need to do is acknowledge their signal by looking towards it and pressing the corresponding button. If you agree with their proposal, boosting their signal will let them know you share the same understanding.
8. Use Gestures & Prattling Pate To Communicate
It’s Better Than Nothing
In the absence of voice chat, communicating effectively with friends might become challenging unless you’re using party chat or platforms like Discord. Pings usually suffice in most situations, but if necessary, try using gestures or an alternative called Prattling Pate. These options can be found on the far right side of your screen when you open the equipment menu. Many of the gestures that players are accustomed to from the game Elden Ring are included there.
Even though it might not be extremely useful, especially at the blistering pace Nightreign is played, it’s still more beneficial than having no communication at all. In this fast-paced game, chatting with teammates like Prattling Pate becomes more relevant than relying on gestures alone. With it, you can express gratitude for a dropped item or simply greet your team when the game begins.
7. Ping Items That Are More Useful To Other Classes
Only Take What Helps Your Build
For smooth loot distribution as previously mentioned, being forward-thinking in your actions is beneficial. If by chance you come across an item that could help a character other than yours, simply signal it to them. You might not realize this, but to ping items, all you need to do is simultaneously press the action/loot button and the ping button.
In simpler terms, when you use the “ping” feature, it will appear at the lower right part of your screen, as well as flash up on your teammates’ displays. This action not only alerts other players that they can also use pings, but it might encourage them to share resources more freely among themselves too.
6. Do Your Part In Boss Fights
Don’t Just Watch
To maximize your success during boss battles, particularly against night bosses and Nightlords, it’s crucial that you actively engage in the fight. These bosses are designed for three-player teams, and sharing the boss’s attention among all players is key to gradually reducing their health. It can be challenging for a single player to sustain continuous attacks from the boss, so it’s beneficial to jump in, deal damage when possible, and help distribute the boss’s aggression.
In Nightreign, it can be tempting to play passively, more so when you have competent teammates. However, this strategy might lead to over-reliance on them as you tend to focus more on self-preservation rather than actively engaging the boss. It’s beneficial for both you and your allies if you occasionally draw the boss’s attention to provide opportunities for healing.
5. Let Everyone Look At A Talisman Before Picking It Up
It May Match Someone Else’s Loot Better
In Limveld, talismans are rare and scattered; you need to hunt down and eliminate the scarabs that pop up unpredictably across the map. Just as with gear, it’s usually ideal for a talisman to go to the player who has the strongest Nightfarer to utilize it effectively. It can be quite frustrating when a teammate collects a scarab before others have a chance to identify what it was.
Locating the perfect charm could significantly enhance your game structure. Several of them have been transferred straight from Elden Ring, which means compatibility remains similar. Given that the Recluse character is primarily ranged, it wouldn’t make much sense to retain a charm that amplifies melee attacks instead.
4. Wait For Your Teammates If They Fall Behind
Everything Is Easier As A Group
In Elden Ring Nightreign, the clock keeps moving, but there’s no need to leave your companions and rush off to another spot – unless they’re trapped in the Night’s Tide, then it might be wise to save your progress and make a quick exit. Unless you’ve significantly over-levelled, which can occur with certain weaker bosses on Day 2, having your entire team together makes everything significantly easier.
It’s not enjoyable to be left behind, always struggling to catch up and picking up leftovers, while your teammates move forward. Similarly, rushing too far ahead can lead to getting trapped and leaving your team without a chance to help you, since they might be too far away. Working together gives you a much better chance of success when trying to defeat the night bosses, as minor setbacks can mean failure if you’re not united.
3. Help Your Teammates Do Their Remembrance Quests
It’s Just Common Courtesy
After defeating Gladius, known as Tricephalos on the matchmaking menu, you’ll unlock Remembrance Quests. These quests progress the individual story of each Nightfarer. Some of them are solo missions, guiding you to the Remembrance Realm and completing specific tasks independently. On the other hand, others task you with objectives that need to be completed in Limveld.
In any given situation, just one Remembrance Quest can be in progress. Moreover, only one player’s Remembrance Quest can be accomplished during an expedition, implying that the chances to finish your goals are somewhat limited. Some of these tasks may require a detour, but they generally come with rewards – frequently you’ll encounter a boss who drops a Dormant Power.
2. Kite Enemies Away From Downed Teammates
It’s Easier To Revive Without Getting Swarmed
In simpler terms, when a team member gets knocked out, they have a short time left before they perish and drop a level unless you’re facing a night boss. Rushing to their aid might lead to both you and another teammate being surrounded by too many enemies. It’s quite risky to help because your focus is split, which could result in you getting knocked out as well.
In a situation where someone in your group gets knocked down, it would be advantageous to have the person controlling the attention of enemies divert them from the fallen comrade. This tactic is particularly effective during boss battles, and your Surge Sprint should be quick enough to keep you out of harm’s way. In fact, this method can be employed even if you’re the last one standing – guide the boss away from your teammates before making a retreat yourself. By doing so, you create ample time to revive and heal your fallen allies.
1. Use Elemental Items Liberally If You Have A Recluse In The Party
It Helps Her Use Magic Cocktail
As a fan, I always keep in mind that the Nightfarer character, the Recluse, needs a unique approach when she’s on my squad due to her specific playstyle. Although she’s primarily a caster, she tends to exhaust her Focus Points (FP) rapidly, and recharging them effectively within the game of Nightreign without cerulean flasks can be challenging. To give her a boost, I find it incredibly beneficial to use items that inflict elemental damage.
The Recluse’s unique skill, Magic Cocktail, absorbs residual magical energy from the elements she encounters, restoring her magic points in the process. Just like some people can’t help but hoard items, waiting for the right moment to use them, a player who frequently coats their weapons with grease or throws pots while playing as the Recluse character in Elden Ring Nightreign becomes incredibly powerful. It seems that among Recluse players, there’s an unwritten rule: those who master this skill are highly respected.
