Even though Elden Ring: Nightreign was recently released, a renowned modder has already shared a highly anticipated “Duos Mode” modification that gamers can download from the Elden Ring: Nightreign Nexus, specifically for the PC edition of the game.
This modification originates from Luke Yui, who is also known for creating the widely acclaimed Seamless Co-op mod in Elden Ring and other games by From Software. Shortly after Nightreign was released online, Yui posted a brief video showcasing an early two-player setup that didn’t rely on matchmaking servers. Not much time passed before the full mod became accessible for others to utilize.
In Elden Ring Nightreign, it’s designed as an online multiplayer game that can accommodate three players simultaneously, or be played solo. However, there’s no option to team up in twos unless you’re joined by a random third player. This arrangement is prevalent in many other online games like Apex Legends and Destiny, but the absence of a duo mode has been met with some disapproval from players who prefer playing with a friend or partner. This aspect is one of the points raised in the less favorable reviews on Steam, where the game currently holds a “Mixed” rating.
During Elden Ring Nightreign’s announcement, it became apparent that there would be no Duos Mode. In an IGN interview from December, game director Junya Ishizaki clarified that this decision was primarily about balancing the game rather than designing it. However, in a more recent IGN interview before the game’s release, Ishizaki acknowledged that duos had been somewhat disregarded and suggested that potential support may be provided post-launch.
It’s worth noting that although there’s no official confirmation, it’s possible we’re seeing more examples of enthusiasts filling gaps by adding desired game features on their own.
