Elden Ring Nightreign: Co-op Mode Releases May 2025 – No Fall Damage, Boss Fights, and More!

I was taken aback at the Game Awards 2024 when Developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco unveiled Elden Ring Nightreign, their upcoming cooperative game. Excitement filled the air as they announced the release date – May 30, 2025. As we approach the end of the first half of the year, players worldwide eagerly await its arrival.

In the video trailer below, you’ll get a peek at additional aspects of the game, featuring fresh gameplay clips that reveal the opponents and bosses players will need to join forces against.

In Elden Ring, cooperative play was an optional feature alongside a single-player experience. However, in the expansion known as Elden Ring: Nightreign, teamwork is essential as players are required to form groups of three to face the challenges posed by the Night Tide.

As a tech-savvy gamer, I’ve found myself immersed in an intriguing gameplay dynamic where the playable zone gradually shrinks over time, reminiscent of the contracting circle in battle royale games. Each session concludes with a challenging boss battle, and the time constraint necessitates choosing the right upgrades wisely. This new version offers several perks compared to Elden Ring’s original format. For instance, I can summon a spectral bird for aerial navigation, and I can sprint faster than ever on solid ground. However, what truly sets it apart is the absence of fall damage, a feature that significantly alters my approach to navigating FromSoftware’s ingeniously designed levels.

A surprising change of pace for FromSoftware

I must admit, I’m quite astonished that this game exists, but my curiosity is definitely piqued about giving it a try. The cooperative play in Elden Ring is enjoyable, so I can’t help but wonder how the entire gameplay experience will change with a focus on cooperation (rather than solitary exploration). The reuse of assets from FromSoftware’s past games is amusing, and I’m looking forward to seeing which bosses from the Dark Souls universe make a return.

A single round should approximately last about 45 minutes, making it a fairly lengthy session ideal for multiplayer or cooperative play, yet not so prolonged that it becomes excessively tedious or frustrating.

I’m disheartened that cross-platform play isn’t available. I understand it wasn’t included in Elden Ring previously, but given the current state of gaming, I believe it should no longer be viewed as a unique feature. By 2025, I think it’s reasonable to expect this as a standard online feature for multiplayer and cooperative games.

As a tech-savvy gamer, I’m thrilled to announce that Elden Ring Nightreign is heading my way on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, my trusty Windows PC, as well as the next-gen PlayStation 5 and current PlayStation 4 consoles. Can’t wait to explore its mysteries!
