A couple of days following the announcement by developers FromSoftware and publishers Bandai Namco that Elden Ring Nightreign, the recently launched cooperative-focused roguelike spinoff of the 2022 ARPG award-winner, reached 2 million players on its first day, it’s now been disclosed that player count has climbed to an impressive 3.5 million. It’s worth mentioning that new features for the game are also being developed.
After expressing their appreciation for Nightreign’s current performance, the creators revealed that Duos Expeditions (a feature that allows two players to play Nightreign together) is scheduled to be added eventually. Additionally, they mentioned that tougher boss fights will be introduced, and more updates will be gradually released in the future as well.
Beyond the upcoming DLC this year, we’ll progressively introduce additional features. Starting now, expect upgraded battles with the current Nightlords, and later, Duo Expeditions will be introduced as well. We appreciate your continued support.
While it’s true we’ve only just begun, the night still has much to offer. This week marks the start of more intense battles against the Nightlords, and by the end of this year, a new DLC will join our journey. Furthermore, Duo Expeditions are planned for a future release. Your support means everything to us, thank you!

As a tech enthusiast, I must admit that the term “enhanced” is a bit vague to me. However, considering the context and my experience with similar games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, I’m guessing these improved Nightlord fights will feature more intricate evasion mechanics and larger boss health pools. It might be comparable to the intense “Inner” battles from Sekiro’s boss gauntlet if you’ve played it. Keep your eyes peeled for a chance to test them out this month!
As a tech enthusiast who’s conquered the Nightlord battles, I can tell you that these encounters offer a thrilling new challenge. If you manage to triumph over them, you’re in for some great rewards! You’ll find yourself swimming in Murk currency, perfect for buying skins, and high-quality Relic drops. It’s an exciting prospect, isn’t it?
Players have been vocal about their enthusiasm for Duo Expeditions, with some even developing Elden Ring Nightreign’s cooperative mod prematurely due to high demand. Although FromSoftware had initially “overlooked and neglected” this feature, they later expressed interest in supporting it post-launch. I’m pleased to hear that the studio eventually implemented Duo Expeditions in Elden Ring Nightreign.
Regarding the 2025 Downloadable Content (DLC) that has been discussed, we have information that it is set to launch during the last quarter of this year. This expansion pack is expected to feature new Nightfarers and bosses. I’m also eagerly anticipating the inclusion of some fresh maps, as having just one map in the game, Limveld, can make gameplay feel quite monotonous. As I pointed out in my Elden Ring Nightreign review, this lack of variety is the game’s most significant drawback.
This is great … but what about crossplay?

In summary, it’s exciting to notice that Nightreign is being updated with fresh content, including the long-awaited Nightlord boss battles, which are set to debut shortly after the game’s launch on May 30. However, it’s unfortunate that there hasn’t been any talk about crossplay or multiplayer compatibility across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation platforms—a feature that would enable Nightfarers from different systems to play together.
Crossplay has grown to be a common element in multiplayer games, allowing players to team up with friends across different platforms and maintaining quick matchmaking times even as the game ages. Since cooperative play is central to Nightreign’s design, I was curious if this feature might be implemented at some stage.
It’s plausible that crossplay hasn’t been implemented yet because the developer is still considering it or dealing with technical issues that prevent it. Alternatively, the studio might be hesitant to include cross-platform play due to potential cheating concerns in PC versions, which are less common in FromSoftware games. However, I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but I’m not holding out for a positive announcement.
The game titled Elden Ring: Nightreign is a daring, innovative departure from the original FromSoftware series that infuses its Soulsborne combat with a rogue-like, cooperative edge. Despite some significant drawbacks such as limited maps and less diverse enemy types, it’s still shaping up to be one of the top Xbox games and PC games this year for fans seeking action who are into the Souls series. Priced at $39.99, you can grab it for a discounted price of $33.99 by using the promo code XVSAVE (for PC) or EPET226 (for Xbox) on Newegg.
