This is due to a decision made by Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to turn off multiplayer matchmaking using passwords for the Nightreign session running from 7-10 p.m. PT on February 14th. They advised players not to set any multiplayer password during this entire playtest period. The announcement was made just before the second playtest started.
Minutes prior to the commencement of the second Elden Ring Nightreign playtest, their social media accounts announced the disappointment concerning the multiplayer aspect. The reason for disabling the multiplayer password feature wasn’t explicitly stated, but if you have one activated, it’s advisable to deactivate it so that you can successfully join a game instead.

Both factors could play a role, but for tonight, don’t plan on playing with friends.
