Elden Ring Nightreign Disables Multiplayer Passwords for Playtest

If you’re planning to enjoy Elden Ring Nightreign tonight, either on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X during the Elden Ring spin-off’s second playtest, remember that you won’t be able to team up with your friends. This is due to a decision made by Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to turn off multiplayer matchmaking using passwords for the Nightreign session running from 7-10 p.m. PT on February 14th. They advised players not to set any multiplayer password during this entire playtest period. The announcement was made just before the second playtest started.

Minutes prior to the commencement of the second Elden Ring Nightreign playtest, their social media accounts announced the disappointment concerning the multiplayer aspect. The reason for disabling the multiplayer password feature wasn’t explicitly stated, but if you have one activated, it’s advisable to deactivate it so that you can successfully join a game instead.

Although no formal reason has been given, it’s quite plausible that the change in multiplayer was driven by either of two possibilities. The less probable scenario is that FromSoftware is gathering data on how Nightreign performs when players are matched randomly and aren’t connecting with friends. On the other hand, a more likely explanation could be that turning off multiplayer passwords aims to prevent the disruptions seen earlier today, where frequent disconnections were so problematic that it was suggested we might have another Nightreign test run. Both factors could play a role, but for tonight, don’t plan on playing with friends.

As an enthusiastic player of Elden Ring Nightreign, I can confirm that you’ll have the option to embark on your adventure solo or with a group of three, but regrettably, duos are not supported in this game at the moment. During tonight’s gaming session, you’ll still be connected with other players since matchmaking is automatic. However, if you left your multiplayer password active earlier today, ensure it’s turned off to avoid any issues with matchmaking. Enjoy your gaming experience!
