The Equilibrious Beast adventure in Elden Ring Nightreign is arguably one of the most exciting, yet apparently tough, if you haven’t figured out how to defeat Libra. Once you grasp his workings, he becomes surprisingly easier among the Nightreign bosses on your target list, believe it or not.
Just like other Nightlords, you’ll be straight into action once you join the expedition, exploring optimal rune farming spots and seeking out legendary weapons. But remember, as I’ll detail later, this goat-headed creature isn’t just about a fight – it may propose different deals beforehand, which could potentially be beneficial for you to accept.
Elden Ring Nightreign Libra tips
Here’s how to best prepare for Libra throughout the Equilibrious Beast expedition:
- Get a madness weapon or spells
Although this creature inflicts madness damage, it’s surprisingly vulnerable to it too. Interestingly, causing madness damage might cause Libra to go into a frenzy, where it wields a staff instead of unleashing its fearsome area-of-effect spells. Furthermore, Libra produces crystals that repel madness, helping to manage both the accumulation of madness from its attacks and any madness induced by your own spells.
In the town of Limveld, it can be quite challenging to come across Madness Gear due to its rarity. However, keep your fingers crossed and make use of the map overlay to discover spots that offer Madness Affinity gear as a reward. Alternatively, you could visit merchant locations where they stock at least one item that exploits the boss’ weakness.
- Holy and fire damage are good backups if you don’t have madness
As uncommon are the madness-inflicting weapons, you might have to lean more towards holy and fire damage, as Libra exhibits some vulnerability to these types as well. Regrettably, you won’t be able to trigger the exclusive frenzy effect, but you’ll still benefit from additional damage.
1. During expeditions, it’s simpler to discover these weapons, and you can even obtain relics to integrate them into your initial weapon, which can be enhanced by locating smithing stone spots. The optimal Wylder setup is particularly effective at inflicting fire damage due to numerous unique relics that enhance his skills, whereas the ideal Recluse setup excels in all types of magic and spells.
Here’s another one:
2. In expeditions, these weapons are more accessible, and you can even find relics to incorporate them into your starting weapon, which you can improve by discovering smithing stone locations. The ideal Wylder configuration is highly efficient at causing fire damage because of various unique relics that boost his abilities, while the optimal Recluse setup excels in all forms of magic and incantations.
- Get madness damage negation
Libra consistently inflicts significant chaos damage through its diverse selection of spells. Even if you are skilled at evading attacks, it’s highly probable that you’ll receive a hit eventually. Additionally, collecting crystals from Libra that reduce chaos and any chaos-resistant equipment found during the expedition will be beneficial to you.
- Level up and get flask upgrades
Similar to many game supervisors, it’s advisable to reach level ten at least before engaging with Libra. Given its challenging nature, aiming for level 12 or higher is a good idea if possible, to expedite the process. Gather as many runes as you can and defeat expedition bosses en route for passive enhancements. Don’t forget to collect as many flask charges as you can by visiting all the temples.
How to beat Libra, Creature of Night in Elden Ring Nightreign
In defeating Libra efficiently, your team composition is particularly crucial compared to most Nightlords. This is mainly because Libra has a move that strengthens its defenses if not properly interrupted, making it more challenging to overcome. Characters similar in strength to top-tier characters in our Elden Ring Nightreign tier list are ideal for battling Libra. Here’s my suggested team composition:
1. [Character Name 1]: Known for their abilities to effectively interrupt and weaken opponents, they will be instrumental in countering Libra’s defensive buff.
2. [Character Name 2]: This character excels at dealing high damage, making them a valuable asset when attacking Libra after the initial interruption.
3. [Support Character]: A support character with healing and crowd control abilities is essential for keeping your team alive during the intense battle against Libra.
- Ironeye: His ultimate can also completely interrupt Libra’s meditation, so you don’t need to break runes. If that’s on cooldown, then ranged weapons in general are perfect for destroying the necessary sigils (explained below), even those that spawn in the air. He can also mark enemies so they take increased damage from the entire team, and it’s not hard to see why that’s handy.
- Wylder: He’s an easy-to-gear character with great damage and stagger potential, especially from his ultimate, which can interrupt Libra’s mediation, bypassing the need to break sigils. Plus, his unique relics can also add fire damage to his skills, which helps negate the reliance on RNG drops.
- Duchess: Her Restage skill not only repeats recent damage against targets (including the affinity boost from using fire against Caligo), but can also reapply status ailments.
- Recluse: By using madness incantations and fire spells, alongside her Magic Cocktail, Recluse can dish out incredible pain. Plus, her ultimate also gives your team healing and FP restoration.
With your ideal team now in place, let’s head to the library since it’s crucial to learn Libra’s attack patterns. Unlike many bosses, you can’t just power through the Equilibrious Beast; instead, you must strategically counter some of its attacks to defeat him. Unlike other Nightlords, Libra is a single-phase battle, so he won’t alter his tactics. However, don’t get overly optimistic as the Equilibrious Beast boasts a variety of skills it can swiftly switch between, making it a challenging encounter.
- Watch out for these attacks
In any engagement, Libra can be overwhelmingly powerful across all distances. During combat, it occasionally generates crystals that slow down your insanity accumulation. Make sure to gather these crystals to prevent becoming insane, since not doing so will cause harm to you and provoke the boss even further.
- Shotgun: Libra’s main attack is a golden glyph that shoots out projectiles like a shotgun while it rotates. To avoid it, dodge through it in the opposite direction it’s rotating so you’re not caught out again as it spins. There’s a slight delay between Libra creating the glyph and it beginning to fire, so you’ve got time to react and reposition.
- Rain: Another of Libra’s common attacks is a madness shower. Keep an eye on the sky so you can see when this attack is being used, and then run away to avoid the impacts.
- Geyser: Libra can create large golden glyphs on the ground that erupt a moment later, requiring you to move outside of the geyser to avoid damage. Avoiding one is simple enough, but be careful, as Libra often creates several runes back to back, so don’t stop moving until it’s safe.
- Meditation: Libra’s signature move sees it meditate inside a shield. The shield absorbs nearly all damage, and if it completes the mediation, it gets a temporary defence buff, which you want to avoid at all costs. To counter this move, you have to either use Wylder or Ironeye’s ultimates to break the shield, or destroy the various sigils that spawn around Libra. These sigils can be broken by walking into them or attacking them, but some can spawn in the air, so using a ranged weapon like a bow is best. If you successfully interrupt Libra’s meditation, it will enter a frenzy.
- Frenzy: Dealing enough madness damage to the boss, interrupting Libra’s meditation, or even being afflicted with madness yourself, causes it to enter a frenzy. In this enraged state, Libra gains a temporary damage buff and attacks in melee range.
- Fog: Libra occasionally pounds the ground and creates a thick fog that quickly builds up your madness, but also creates a lot of the crystals you can use to reduce your madness. Collect enough crystals to survive and wait out the attack, or you can interrupt the boss using charged attacks from heavy weapons.
- Interrupt Libra’s meditation
As a gamer, I’m emphasizing this because it’s crucial: if Libra manages to meditate, it’s game over for me, at least for a while. The defensive boost lasts a long time and significantly reduces the damage I can inflict. So, whether I’m trying to break the sigils or use an ultimate, I need to stop this attack at any cost.
- Libra’s double-edged deals
Stepping into Libra’s battlefield offers an unusual tranquil interaction instead. Unlike other foes, it won’t immediately attack you. Instead, a dialogue opens up where you’ll be presented with various, seemingly advantageous trades. However, each proposal has its hidden costs. These might include surviving one death but losing some of your maximum health, or gaining extra levels but having each potion use lower your level by one.
Generally speaking, I advise turning down offers more often than accepting them. Although some can provide significant advantages, the potential risks are substantial and hard to evade. If you possess exceptional abilities and can dodge harm effectively, then going for bonus levels or enhancing your attributes might be beneficial. However, if not, it could lead to dire consequences.
- Stay close to Libra
In a battle with Libra, it’s safer to position yourself at a distance that’s close to medium range. This is because it becomes simpler to evade the boss by moving around (kiting) at this distance. Moreover, a combination of melee and ranged Nightfarers proves beneficial here. Characters like Wylder or Raider can engage in hand-to-hand combat, while Ironeye or Recluse can attack from slightly farther away, dealing damage gradually.
