Elden Ring Nightreign is finally getting Duo Expeditions as FromSoftware caves into pleas from players who can only find one other friend to match with

Elden Ring, dubbed “Nightreign” by some, has experienced a somewhat rocky debut, particularly in the context of FromSoftware games. Surprisingly, in its first day alone, it managed to sell an astounding 2 million copies. However, it initially received mixed responses from users on Steam (although this has since improved to generally positive reviews).

After the initial release, FromSoftware has been actively addressing issues. The first major update for Nightreign significantly altered its singleplayer experience, introducing an auto-resurrect feature and other enhancements, as they acknowledged that the game was originally unbalanced for solo play. However, this isn’t the only adjustment we can expect; additional patches are on the way.

FromSoftware hints that the night is still young on their social media. Beyond the upcoming DLC scheduled for this year, they’ll be adding more features progressively. This includes tougher battles against existing Nightlords starting right now, followed by Duo Expeditions at a later time. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Hearing about Duo Expeditions brings joy to me, but when I learned that Nightreign would only be playable by three players or solo, it left me as puzzled and annoyed as many others. My partner and I had eagerly anticipated playing a FromSoftware game together, so the thought of having an extra player felt disappointing.

Fortunately, other gamers had devised a solution to this issue earlier, and someone even developed a duo mode specifically for Nightreign called a “mod”. However, I may only utilize it temporarily, as I eagerly await the two-player update from FromSoft. To be honest, I find the thought of playing with random players for extended periods less appealing.

As a gamer, I’m stoked about the Duo Expeditions and hearing FromSoft tease “upgraded battles” for current Nightlords. Frankly, I have no clue what that means, but it doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence. You see, FromSoft has a tendency to tone down challenging bosses after launch – just look at Promised Consort Radahn or the Elden Beast as examples. However, I can’t shake off this feeling that the Nightreign bosses are only going to become more difficult instead.

To set the record straight, the present lineup of Nightlord bosses is extremely challenging, with me having successfully defeated merely two out of eight. The prospect of an ‘intensified battle’ leaves me yearning to curl up and hide. Yet, it serves as a powerful motivator for me to persevere and conquer as many as I can. If the forthcoming alterations render them more formidable, I’ll consider myself lucky to have avoided a difficult situation. Alternatively, if they become less demanding, I’ll be able to boast about my prowess, claiming that FromSoft’s assistance is unnecessary for me. In either case, it’s a win-win scenario.
