Elden Ring: Nightreign Might Get 2-Player Co-Op Some Time After Launch

In the upcoming co-op action RPG “Elden Ring: Nightreign,” FromSoftware is initially focusing on three-player multiplayer. However, they’ve hinted that they might consider solo play or a two-player mode in future updates. In an interview with Ungeek, Director Junya Ishizaki explained that, at the moment, two friends can join a game together and be paired with a random third player.

Ishizaki mentioned that a two-queue system is being used, which allows you to interact with both a known player, like a friend, and a random participant during the entire game. There’s no problem in this regard.

In Elden Ring: Nightreign, the option for solo or duo gameplay with only two friends won’t be available when the game initially releases, although Ishiziaki mentioned that the studio is thinking about a solution for players who prefer such experiences.

He mentioned that although we’ve thought about limiting the game to only two players instead of three or a single player, this feature isn’t available yet in the game.

In Elden Ring: Nightreign, Ishizaki has disclosed that the game’s world map may undergo significant transformations based on certain conditions. As a result, players could potentially witness the landscape shifting dynamically to form volcanic landscapes or even vast swamplands.

Earlier this week, Ishizaki mentioned that the map in our game is designed to be like a massive labyrinth, allowing players to journey and discover new paths each time they play. Additionally, players will need to decide which final boss they wish to encounter on the third day.

As an enthusiastic gamer, it appears that this game is designed with the intention of immersing us into a vast, interconnected world akin to a colossal dungeon. Simultaneously, it empowers us by providing an arsenal of top-tier tools to conquer the diverse challenges it presents, allowing each of us to choose our preferred method of play.

On Tuesday, we learned that the anticipated release date for Elden Ring: Nightreign is May 30. A trailer has been unveiled, which you can watch here. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-orders are currently being accepted for this cooperative game.

In addition to announcing the release date, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have also shared information about the Collector’s Edition for the game. This premium edition includes a SteelBook, a hardcover art book, a 25 cm statue of Wylder Nightfarer, along with other items.

The game titled “Elden Ring: Nightreign” was initially revealed at The Game Awards in December 2024. This independent title is set to prioritize cooperative action, offering players innovative strategies for battling bosses. While the core gameplay mechanics may resemble what we encountered in the iconic Elden Ring, it will still provide a unique gaming experience.

It’s worth noting that, aside from its original characters, the game Nightreign will also include boss fights taken from other FromSoftware titles. Players have noticed appearances of The Nameless King and Stormdrake from Dark Souls 3, as well as a boss resembling the Centipede Demon from earlier Dark Souls games.

If you’re eager to explore “Elden Ring: Nightreign” ahead of its release, consider participating in the network tests that are scheduled to begin tomorrow.
