In FromSoftware’s games, boss battles are their specialty, making up the core of their gameplay. Although the regular combat in these games often feels satisfying, it’s the epic boss fights that truly bring out the best in their mechanics and blend all the different elements together seamlessly. For over a decade now, FromSoftware has been using boss battles as a key component in their action-RPG design, and Elden Ring Nightreign follows this tradition.
In the game, Elden Ring: Nightreign, the central focus is on intense boss battles, possibly even more so than any other FromSoft title to date. The core mechanics of Nightreign revolve around players rushing through a sequence of challenging boss fights, with the aim of gaining levels and powerful upgrades to better prepare for larger bosses ahead. The game features over 100 bosses, six of which are from the Dark Souls series. While there’s plenty to keep fans engaged initially, there is also ample opportunity for new bosses to join the roster in the upcoming DLC expansions.
FromSoftware Bosses That Should Come to Elden Ring Nightreign After Launch
Demon’s Souls’ Flamelurker
The game that started the FromSoftware formula, “Demon’s Souls,” is sometimes overshadowed by its more recent counterparts, even with its own updated version on PS5. While the boss lineup in “Demon’s Souls” may not be as extensive as those found in later games, it still features some remarkable opponents that are worth a revisit. The fearsome Flamelurker is one such boss. Similar to the Balrog, Flamelurker uses his fiery fists to attack players and can jump vast distances to dodge incoming attacks. His agility makes him an ideal candidate for one of the DLC bosses in “Elden Ring Nightreign.
Dark Souls’ Gravelord Nito
In the original game “Dark Souls,” often underestimated boss, Gravelord Nito dwells in an area that’s frequently criticized as the most challenging. However, the battle against him is quite intriguing. As the fight ensues, Nito will laboriously crawl toward the player, summoning a horde of skeletons as he advances. This can be quite frustrating in “Dark Souls,” especially for those who don’t have a weapon imbued with Faith to prevent the skeletons from reemerging. Yet, this dynamic would fit perfectly with the three-player structure of the hypothetical game “Nightreign.
Dark Souls 2’s Looking Glass Knight
A lesser-known but impressive boss from Dark Souls 2, the Looking Glass Knight, could make an excellent choice for Elden Ring’s Nightreign’s boss lineup. Equipped with his own powerful moves and a unique ability to summon other players to aid him in combat, this character could be modified in Nightreign to have NPC versions of the Nightfarers join the fight instead, similar to how they are utilized in Remembrance missions.
Dark Souls 3’s Lothric and Lorian
In a simple and engaging manner, we could say: Dark Souls 3’s Lothric and Lorian, an ideal pair for Elden Ring Nightreign, are a seamless match. Players will find themselves dividing their focus between Lorian, the knight wielding a flaming greatsword, and Lothric, a sorcerer who supports his stronger brother by healing him in battle.
Since Sony owns the rights to the Bloodborne intellectual property, it’s highly improbable that any of its boss characters will appear in Elden Ring Nightreign. However, if there were any exceptions, Ludwig would make an excellent candidate.
Sekiro’s Demon of Hatred
In the current version of Elden Ring Nightreign, neither Demon’s Souls nor Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice have been fully integrated. While the Executor Nightfarer incorporates some aspects of Sekiro’s deflection system, it would be exciting to see more content reminiscent of Sekiro in Nightreign. The Demon of Hatred could potentially serve as a compelling character inspired by Sekiro within the game.
