As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must confess that I’ve grown accustomed to the evolving landscape of multiplayer gaming. The lack of crossplay in Elden Ring: Nightreign, however, feels like stepping back into the era of console-exclusive parties and LAN gatherings.
In Elden Ring: Nightreign, collaboration plays a significant role, but you’re free to enjoy the game solo or offline if that suits your preference. However, it’s important to note that FromSoftware has chosen not to include crossplay functionality in this title.
Just like the initial Elden Ring, there will be an option for cross-generational gameplay, but it won’t support cross-platform gameplay. This means that PS4 users can team up with PS5 users, while Xbox One players can play with Xbox Series S and X players; however, they cannot play together if they are using different platforms.
In modern times, crossplay – where players can compete or cooperate across different gaming platforms – has become increasingly prevalent in popular multiplayer games. This situation eliminates the divide between PlayStation, PC, and Xbox users when forming teams, which seems unfortunate given today’s interconnected world.
It’s been polite to say that FromSoftware’s online features have felt outdated in the past. We’re hopeful that it will be simpler to join forces with friends and play together in Nightreign compared to Elden Ring, but only time (and experience) will tell for sure.
