Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Patch Buffs Light Great Swords, Backhand Blades, and More in PvP

As a seasoned Elden Ring gamer with hundreds of hours under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of balance changes in FromSoftware’s masterpiece. The latest patch, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, has brought some significant adjustments to both PvE and PvP elements of the game.

As a dedicated Elden Ring gamer, I’ve just jumped into the game post-latest patch! This update brings some significant tweaks to the balance, especially focusing on weapons, skills, Talismans, and beyond—all hailing from Shadow of the Erdtree. These adjustments cater to both Player versus Environment (PvE) and Player versus Player (PvP) scenarios.

In PvP combat, weapons such as Light Great Swords (like Milady), Backhand Blades, Hand-to-Hand Arts, and Beast Claws now inflict more poise damage with regular attacks. When wielding two Katanas, Fists, Claws, Whips, Thrusting Swords, or other weapons, the attacks also cause increased poise damage. Additionally, the throwing attacks from the Night’s Claws have received a boost in poise damage.

As a seasoned player with years of experience under my belt, I must admit that the recent adjustments to the Fine Crucible Feather Talisman and Talisman of All Crucibles have left me a bit disheartened. As someone who has relied on these items for their invulnerability window during backsteps in PvP combat, this change feels like a significant blow. The decrease in invulnerability time makes the risk vs. reward factor more pronounced and, frankly, less appealing to me as a player.

1. Take a look at the adjustments to Savage Lion’s Claw, Raging Beast, Palm Blast, and other abilities in the following section. The game Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is now accessible on Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and PC platforms. Our review awarded it a perfect score of 10 out of 10, which you can read here.

Elden Ring – Patch Notes Version 1.13

PvP-exclusive balance adjustments

Equipment

Increased poise damage of normal attacks for the following weapon types:

  • Light Great Swords / Backhand Blades / Hand-to-Hand Arts / Beast Claws

Increased poise damage of dual wield attacks for the following weapon types:

  • Straight Swords / Thrusting Swords / Curved Swords / Katanas / Spears / Whips / Fists / Claws

Increased poise damage of the Claws of Night throwing attacks.

Based on my years of experience playing action role-playing games, I strongly believe that shortening the backstep invulnerability window when wielding the Fine Crucible Feather Talisman or the Talisman of All Crucibles is a brilliant game design choice.
