The re-creation of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (I firmly refuse to label it a remaster) has skyrocketed to the top of Steam’s Best Sellers chart. Over 100,000 gamers have stepped through the refurbished gates of Oblivion, and its popularity continues to climb.
Initially, when I began crafting this piece, there were 108,000 players engaged. However, within just half an hour, another 18,000 players joined in, bumping the total up to a staggering 144,000. Now, isn’t that a remarkable figure even for a work day?
Instead of Europeans taking a break and indulging in their reimagined leisure, us Americans find ourselves continuing to work, anxiously awaiting the end of our workdays. My brother-in-law even messaged me, “Today’s not a good day for work.
As the number of players keeps increasing and more Americans are wrapping up work, it’s quite likely that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion will reach an astonishing player count. Previous games like Skyrim and Starfield saw around 280k and 330k players respectively. Given the hype, I could imagine Oblivion attracting somewhere near or even beyond those numbers.
Currently, Oblivion is surpassed in player count by just a handful of games: Marvel Rivals, Schedule I, PUBG, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike 2. Interestingly, only one of these is a paid title. It’s expected that Elder Scrolls will soon join the top 3.
We should keep in mind that this figure doesn’t include Game Pass users either. It will be intriguing to observe the figures Microsoft reveals about the total number of gamers. I anticipate they’ll disclose the millions of players who have embarked on tasks from the Septim line, possibly as early as this week.
How does this affect other Xbox game releases?

This week, other games like Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and Forza Horizon 5 are set to launch. The former, often highlighted as a significant addition to Game Pass, might experience some decrease in player numbers due to the release of a highly anticipated remaster from one of the biggest IPs in gaming history, correct?
It’s important not to overlook the transition of Forza Horizon 5 to PlayStation. Although the genres differ, there might be a few players who are dropped from the game because of the arrival of Oblivion.
The updated version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion has been released for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation 5. Feel free to jump in and begin your adventure immediately.
