Legendary modern horror director Eli Roth is gearing up to release what he calls his “most chilling and deranged movie yet,” a new production titled “The Ice Cream Truck Man.” Supported by Roth’s newly established The Horror Section studio, the film marks Roth’s return to his independent beginnings with an original narrative he has been refining for more than twenty years. Although the title may remind some veteran horror fans of a 1995 cult movie with a similar name, Roth’s “Ice Cream Truck Man” is a completely unique creation and not a remake or continuation of any existing series.

Roth expressed that he’s been nurturing this concept for quite some time, but studios were hesitant due to his initial drafts. However, now is the perfect moment to take things to another level with what he believes will be his most nerve-wracking and insane film yet. Movies such as “Ice Cream Man” are precisely why The Horror Section was established – to create unrated, boundary-breaking cinematic experiences that horror enthusiasts can discuss for years. I’m incredibly fortunate to have partners like Media Capital Technologies (MCT) and the investors in The Horror Section, who share our vision of building a diverse library of horror media. The Horror Section, launched in March 2025 in collaboration with MCT, aims to produce, acquire, and distribute a variety of horror content, focusing on developing a substantial intellectual property portfolio.

Christopher Woodrow and Raj Singh, from MCT Principals, mentioned that collaborating with Eli is an honor, and they find this project, being his first original independent work in over a decade, to be both invigorating and innovative. They anticipate that the film, titled “Ice Cream Man,” will kick off a new era for horror franchises, boasting significant commercial appeal and the potential to become a major success.

In a tranquil summer town, Norman Roth’s movie, “Ice Cream Man,” takes an eerie turn as the joy of ice cream transforms into terror when a man selling desserts unleashes chilling consequences. Though details are still kept secret, Roth is both screenwriter and director for this project. WME Independent will manage international distribution rights at the approaching Cannes market, while The Horror Section has been appointed to handle the U.S. distribution. The film is set to have a broad cinematic release in Q2 of 2026, with production scheduled to begin this summer in Canada.

These movies played a pivotal role in the rise of the “torture porn” subgenre, offering chilling stories about American travelers ensnared in a hellish underground realm where affluent patrons pay to torment and murder their victims. The graphic brutality, mental anguish, and dismal outlook of the “Hostel” films startled many yet also struck a chord with horror enthusiasts yearning for more hard-hitting content.

Roth delved deeper into grisly subject matter in his film The Green Inferno, a contemporary reinterpretation of 70’s and 80’s cannibal movies, notably Ruggero Deodato’s provocative Cannibal Holocaust. The movie portrays a band of student protesters trapped by an isolated Amazonian tribe, leaving viewers to witness gruesome images of dismemberment and consumption. This reinforced Roth’s notoriety for producing disturbing content. His latest success was Thanksgiving, where he turned the teaser from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse into a complete slasher movie.
