Elizabeth Holmes is going through changes.
In a rare public statement, coming after serving nearly eleven and a half years in prison (now reduced to nine due to good conduct), for deceiving both investors and clients by promising an unattainable medical breakthrough through her blood testing business, the former Theranos CEO has broken her silence.
In a recent interview with People magazine, published on February 12th, Holmes expressed that he is not the same individual as he was in the past. He finds it hard to comprehend the strong beliefs people have about him, especially those who don’t know him personally, as they don’t truly understand who he is now.
After Theranos shut down its operations in 2018, the comprehensive investigation into the company by John Carreyrou, who initially exposed Theranos in a 2015 article for The Wall Street Journal, was published that year. This was followed by a popular Netflix documentary film in 2019 and a Hulu biopic series titled “The Dropout,” starring Amanda Seyfried, which premiered in 2022.
In my perspective, I find myself immersed in a world where doubts linger and hopes soar for the triumph of honesty. I navigate this realm not with certainty, but with unwavering faith, guided by the beacon of truth.
41-year-old woman, mother of son William (aged 3) and daughter Invicta (22 months), along with husband Billy Evans, has asserted her innocence during the trial despite pleading not guilty. She admits that if given a chance to do things over, she would approach them differently.
Regarding her term at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, which is currently housing ‘Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ star Jen Shah, Holmes commented, “Being here has been nothing short of a living nightmare.
Beyond feeling her imprisonment is unfair, Holmes expressed that being apart from her kids during motherhood has been challenging. Seeing them depart following their fortnightly visits always leaves her heartbroken.
In this moment, with those dearest to me departing while I’m confined, the gravity of my situation becomes painfully clear,” the Theranos founder articulated. “Deeply desiring motherhood, I never believed that I would face conviction or bear the weight of guilt.
By April 2032, Holmes envisions a clear path for her future. This plan involves working towards prison reform and advocacy, as well as resuming her career in medical research, according to her own statements.
She stated that every single day, she’s dedicated herself to advancing her research and inventions. She’s unwaveringly devoted to realizing her vision: providing accessible healthcare solutions for all.
Although she deeply regrets causing distress to her dear ones due to her incarceration, Holmes believes that their unwavering support will enable her to endure the rest of her term. She expresses a determination to battle on, stating, “It fuels my will to persevere for every bit of it.
