Ellen DeGeneres talks ‘being kicked out of showbiz’ in trailer for Netflix special

As a cinephile who has been around the block a few times and has seen my fair share of comedians come and go, I must say that I am eagerly awaiting Ellen Degeneres’ latest comedy special, “Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval.” With her quick wit and ability to find humor in even the most mundane situations, she has always been one of my favorite comedians.

Ellen Degeneres is set to deliver a final comedy special on Netflix, titled “Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval,” marking her farewell performance in this format as she gears up for its release.

Later this month, let’s take a peek at a few of the jokes featured in the debut trailer of the upcoming special.

In her conversation, DeGeneres casually discusses topics like gardening and poultry before revealing, “By the way, I’ve been given a brief hiatus from the entertainment world.

She further explains: “The issue is, I’m a comedian who hosts a talk show and each day, I finish the show with ‘Be kind to one another.’ If I had ended my show by saying something like ‘Go have a terrible day,’ people would have been shocked to discover that I’m actually kind-hearted.

In the trailer’s later part, when discussing what drove her to join the industry, Degeneres confesses that she did so as a means to “mend the hurts of my childhood”.

“Ellen DeGeneres is back on stage after a six-year hiatus, featuring in her latest comedy special titled ‘Ellen DeGeneres: Seeking Your Appreciation’ on Netflix.

In the culmination of an extraordinary career in comedy, Ellen delves into her personal life and shares what she’s been up to since her departure from the limelight. She takes us on a journey that ranges from the simple pleasures of tending to chickens and mastering parallel parking, to the raw truth about fame as a celebrity, all while drawing upon her stand-up origins and serving up laughter through life’s most genuine and peculiar situations.

For 19 years, Ellen DeGeneres hosted her own talk show, but it came to an end in 2022 when she stepped down as its leader.

Subsequent events unfolded following allegations of a supposedly harmful work environment off-camera within the show, leading to an inquiry and the termination of three high-ranking producers.

Speaking about the recent events, DeGeneres acknowledged in September 2020: “I discovered that certain incidents occurred which should never have taken place. I take this matter extremely seriously.

Apologies to those impacted; as someone with influence and authority, I understand that it brings duty. I accept accountability for any issues arising from my performance.

Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval premieres on Netflix on 24th September.
