Elon Musk Says He Went “Too Far” With His Messages About Donald Trump

Elon Musk has some regrets.

A few days after publicly criticizing President Donald Trump on social media and suggesting he was due credit for the 2024 election outcomes, the Tesla CEO appeared to express some regret for his strong comments.

On June 11, Musk expressed remorse for certain statements he made regarding President @realDonaldTrump in his previous posts, stating that they exceeded acceptable limits.

As for what the SpaceX CEO said that sparked the feud between him and Trump in the first place?

Following his departure from the position of head at Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) last year, Elon started voicing his disagreement with Trump’s tax reduction and expenditure legislation. Even though he had been a significant financial supporter for Trump’s election campaign, his stance on this particular bill changed.

On June 3rd, he expressed his frustration in writing, “I’ve had enough! The gargantuan, extravagant, bloated Congressional spending bill is appalling and disgraceful. Those who supported it should be ashamed. You are well aware that you’ve made a mistake.

And two days later, he took credit for Trump’s current position in the White House.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election,” the X owner wrote June 5. “Such ingratitude.”

Trump chose not to address Musk’s comments head-on, but he did shed light on the reasons behind their political alliance dissolving – and it appears that things were not as cordial as they seemed.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on June 5, Trump stated, “Elon seemed upset.” I told him to step down, removed the electric vehicle mandate that made people buy cars they didn’t want, which I had planned to do for months. This apparently set him off!

In a now-removed social media post on X, Elon Musk dismissed Trump’s claim as an “apparent falsehood”. However, his former partner Ashley St. Clair, who is the mother of their 9-month-old son Romulus, expressed her thoughts on their past issues.

“Hey @realDonaldTrump,” Ashley wrote on X that same day, “lmk if u need any breakup advice.”

Previously, only a few months ago, Musk had expressed his appreciation and backing towards Trump.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity in February, he expressed that he admires the president. He believes that Donald Trump is a decent individual.

And Trump had reciprocated Musk’s praise even before he was sworn in as president.

In a triumphant address following his election win, the U.S. president remarked, “He’s quite extraordinary, he’s an exceptional individual, he’s exceptionally intelligent,” referring to Musk. He emphasized, “It’s crucial we safeguard our brilliant minds. We don’t have a plentiful supply of them.

Born in Ohio, JD Vance had a career in venture capitalism prior to writing the critically acclaimed 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. After that, he shifted his focus towards politics.

In 2022, a Yale-educated lawyer and ex-Marine won a seat in the U.S. Senate. After serving for only about two years, they were chosen as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

In his role as vice president, Vance not only stands next in command for the presidency but also serves as a crucial deciding vote if Senate Republicans require a tie-breaker to approve bills.

He has been married to law school sweetheart Usha Vance since 2014 and they share three children.

Previously, Senator Marco Rubio from Florida, was a staunch critic of Donald Trump during their presidential race in 2016. However, he has now shifted his stance and supports the policies that were once opposed to him during their rivalry.

The Miami-born individual, whose parents were Cuban immigrants, became the sole and initial nominee for Trump’s second cabinet to be endorsed by the Senate with complete bipartisan agreement, receiving a vote of 99-0. (It is worth noting that now-former Ohio Senator Vance currently occupies a vacant seat. At the time, Rubio was still serving as a senator and therefore cast his vote for himself.)

As a devoted spouse, I’ve been married to Jeanette Dousdebes since 1998, and together we are blessed with four wonderful children – two beautiful daughters and two energetic sons. (Sharing this moment with the honorable Melanie Joly.)

Scott Bessent boasts over four decades of expertise in international investment management. This experience encompasses his tenure as the CEO of hedge fund Key Square Capital Management and the role of Chief Investment Officer at Soros Fund Management, which is linked to prominent Democratic benefactor George Soros.

Apart from that, he additionally instructed economic history at Yale, his former university, and collaborated with his family to establish the McLeod Rehabilitation Center within the Shriners Children’s Hospital in South Carolina, his native state.

Based on his official biography, he resides with his spouse and their two children, dividing their time between Washington, D.C., and Charleston, South Carolina.

In a specific area with a particular economic status, being gay was not a problem, he shared in the Yale Alumni Magazine in 2015 before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled to legalize same-sex marriage across the nation. What’s remarkable is that now, individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds in America have equal access to rights and opportunities. If someone had told me in 1984, when we graduated, and people were dying of AIDS, that 30 years later I would be legally married with two children through surrogacy, I wouldn’t have believed it.

Pete Hegseth, a former Army National Guard veteran, had been serving as the co-host for Fox News’ “Fox & Friends Weekend” since 2017. However, President Trump selected him to serve in the position of Defense Secretary instead.

Initially, several contentious remarks about diversity and gender in the military, a 2017 sexual assault accusation (which Hegseth has strongly refuted), allegations of on-the-job drinking (also denied), and a 2018 email from his mother (later disavowed) labeling him as a woman abuser posed potential hurdles to his confirmation. However, he managed to secure confirmation by the Senate, albeit without any support from Democrats and with three Republican dissents.

Hegseth is married to Jennifer Rauchet Hegseth, his third wife, and they have a daughter together. Previously, he had three children with his second ex-wife Samatha Deering. They exchanged vows at Trump National Golf Club in Colts Neck, New Jersey, in 2019.

Following Matt Gaetz’s self-removal from contention due to scandals, the president-elect ultimately chose Pam Bondi, a former Florida Attorney General and member of his defense team during the first impeachment trial, to head the United States Department of Justice instead.

For eighteen years, she worked as a prosecutor for the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office. In 2011, she made history by becoming Florida’s first female attorney general. Near the end of her term, there were debates about ethics when she temporarily co-hosted Fox News’ “The Five” in 2018.

The representative shared with the Tampa Bay Times that she frequently appears on national broadcasts. Emphasizing that she doesn’t receive compensation for her hosting role, they added that the Attorney General is always busy, accessible around the clock, and continues to work even when away from the state.

Since the year 2017, Bondi has been in a romantic relationship with John Wakefield, who is the founder’s principal at Varner Wakefield Equity Partners. He has three children from a past relationship.

2024 presidential prospect and former supporter of Donald Trump, wealthy software entrepreneur and investor named Doug Burgum, held the position as North Dakota’s governor from 2017 until he was selected to lead the Department of Interior. This department oversees the administration of approximately 480 million acres of federal land, striking a balance between resource extraction and preservation.

Born and raised in the small town of Arthur, North Dakota (population 325), Burgum later enrolled at North Dakota State University. He also established a chimney sweeping company, which he believes played a significant role in his acceptance to Stanford Business School.

In 2017, when I shared with Forbes that my college newspaper had published an article featuring me as a chimney sweep and included a photo of me perched atop an icy chimney during frigid Fargo weather, it turned out that story made the Associated Press wire service. Later on, I learned that it created quite a buzz in the Stanford admissions office.

Burgum has three kids with his former spouse, Karen Stoker, and has been wedded to Kathryn Helgaas since the year 2016.

Karen Stoker is the mother of Burgum’s three children, while he tied the knot with Kathryn Helgaas in 2016.

Originating from Glen Rose, Texas, Brooke Rollins earned a degree in agricultural development from Texas A&M University and subsequently obtained a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Texas School of Law.

In the White House, during President Trump’s initial term, her role was Director of the Domestic Policy Council and served as a Strategic Initiatives Advisor to the President.

Prior to her appointment as head of the Department of Agriculture, Rollins served as both CEO and president of the America First Policy Institute, an organization she established in 2021 with the aim of advancing Donald Trump’s political agenda.

In their spare time, as mentioned in her official government profile, she and her husband Mark Rollins often find themselves ferrying their four energetic kids to various sports events such as baseball games, livestock exhibitions, piano classes, and Texas A&M football matches at home in Fort Worth.

Prior to serving in Trump’s administration, Howard Lutnick held the positions of CEO and president at financial services company Cantor Fitzgerald. He climbed the corporate ladder at this firm, starting out as a young broker in 1983.

As a lifestyle expert reflecting on history, I must share a poignant moment that forever changed the landscape of New York City and countless lives. On September 11, 2001, I found myself deeply affected by the tragic events that unfolded when one of four hijacked planes struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center, taking the lives of 658 of my fellow citizens who worked for the company headquartered there.

For 35 consecutive days in 2006, Lutnick attended twenty funerals a day, with his brother Gary among the deceased. On certain occasions, he was unable to attend the funerals of close friends due to the sheer number of them happening simultaneously. A particularly challenging day saw his best friend’s brother being laid to rest at the same time as his college roommate’s sibling. In this instance, his wife attended one funeral while he went to the other.

Inquired about his progress, he replied, “I liken it to riding a surfboard on a massive wave. If you were to glance backward, the wave could easily overtake you, and I might not be able to continue functioning.

Lutnick has four children with wife Allison Lambert.

Lori Chavez-DeRemer held the position of Mayor in Happy Valley, Oregon from 2011 to 2019. In the year 2022, she made history by being the first Republican woman to be elected to Congress from her state.

Despite not being re-elected, the Californian, who is a pro-union individual with Mexican-American roots traced back to a Teamster father, now has an opportunity to serve in President Trump’s second term cabinet.

Chavez-DeRemer is a mother of twin daughters, married to her high school sweetheart Dr. Shawn DeRemer. In 2024, they will celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary. On this occasion, she posted on Instagram, “The years pass quickly due to our commitment to a ‘remarkable love’ that’s consistently worth defending.

In less than two weeks following her confirmation as Labor Secretary on March 11, 2025, the DeRemers welcomed grandchildren into their family.

Previously loyal Democratic figure, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., shifted his allegiance towards Donald Trump, as his personal ambition for a 2024 run seemed to falter.

Of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy’s 11 children, it is the third who is an environmental lawyer, currently leading the “MAHA” (make America healthy again) movement, and has gained more attention in recent years for expressing concerns about vaccine safety and psychotropic drugs, which has sometimes resulted in disagreements within his own family.

In contrast, Kerry Kennedy, his sister, criticized what she saw as an incomprehensible attempt to dishonor their father’s memory by endorsing Trump. On the other hand, Caroline Kennedy, his cousin, referred to him as a “predator” in a public letter written in January 2025, urging the Senate not to approve him for the position of HHS secretary.

In his personal life, Kennedy is a father of six children: Two from his first marriage with Emily Black and four with his late second wife, Mary Richardson, who tragically took her own life in 2012. Since 2014, he has been married to Cheryl Hines, an alumna of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Previously playing in the NFL, Scott Turner served as a congressman for Texas’ 33rd district from 2013 to 2017. In 2019, he was chosen by President Trump to lead the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council.

In a 2016 NFL Player Engagement interview, he shared that his parents and godparents had always taught him to help others. They emphasized the importance of caring for people, working diligently, and maintaining strong faith…It’s not simple, but if you decide to do it, then that’s what you must strive for.

Apart from being an entrepreneur and a Baptist pastor, he has been married to his wife Robin Turner, also a University of Illinois alum, since 1995. In 2009, the duo adopted Scott’s nephew, Solomon, who had previously played football at Baylor and Hawaii before joining the team at Illinois as a walk-on player.

In his interview with Saturday Tradition in 2022, Solomon expressed gratitude saying, “Without my uncle and aunt, I’m not sure where I would be today. They have been more than just role models for me; they’ve been father figures, providing guidance and support that has meant the world to me. Coming here and doing what I do now feels like a way of giving back to them – a thank you for all they’ve done.

Sean Duffy first made a name for himself in 1997 as a housemate on The Real World: Boston.

He has nine children with Rachel Campos-Duffy, a contestant from The Real World: San Francisco, whom he met during Road Rules: All Stars in 1998 and married the year after that meeting.

For eight years, Duffy served as the District Attorney for Ashland County, right in his native Wisconsin. From 2011 to 2019, he represented the people of this state in Congress. In August of that year, he stepped down from his position due to concerns about the health of his unborn ninth child.

He clarified on Fox & Friends that if she lives for a period between two and six months, she will require open-heart surgery. In simpler terms, he said that to mend her heart, they’ll have to operate and open her up.

Duffy stated, “I have a deep affection for politics, yet my family is my priority, and it’s all about finding a harmony. The timetables can be demanding. I spend four days in Washington D.C., then I return home to Rachel.” While traveling throughout the district to connect with constituents, he noted, “as members of Congress, we often endure a fair share of criticism. We seem to make an appealing target for ridicule.

In an interview with NCTA in May 2019 on ‘The Real World’, he shared that he was initially placed with individuals unlike himself. At first, he noticed the significant contrasts between him and his roommates. However, upon leaving, he discovered that he had far more commonalities with them than he had initially thought.

He likened the situation to negotiating across party lines in Congress: “It’s striking just how much collaborative work you can accomplish, and how many areas of common ground you might discover.

Known as an “energy enthusiast”, Chris Wright is the founder of Pinnacle Technologies, a company that, as per his Energy Department biography, pioneered the development of the hydraulic fracturing (fracking) mapping sector.

Prior to being nominated for his cabinet position, he had previously held the role of CEO at Liberty Energy, which is the second-biggest hydraulic fracturing company in the U.S.

Wright is a devoted father, grandfather, skiing enthusiast, cyclist, rock-climber, and nature lover, as stated in his biography. He lived with his wife Liz Wright in Colorado prior to their move to Washington D.C.

In 1966, Linda McMahon (formerly Edwards) got married to her husband Vince McMahon when she was 17, having completed high school beforehand. Despite initially pursuing a career as a French teacher, she ultimately devoted herself to co-managing the family business, World Wrestling Entertainment, from 1980 until 2009.

McMahon held the position of Administrator for the Small Business Administration from 2017 to 2019 during Trump’s initial term. When he was re-elected in 2024, this six-grandmother became a co-chair for his transition team and was appointed to lead the U.S. Department of Education – an institution that Trump intends to dissolve.

McMahon expressed strong support for the president’s initiative, aiming to devolve education back to the individual states. He shares the president’s view that the most effective education is one that is tailored closely to a child’s needs and circumstances. (New York Times)

In November 2024, McMahon’s lawyer confirmed that the ex-WWE executive and her husband were separated despite remaining legally married, as reported by the Washington Post. Notably, their son Shane McMahon and daughter Stephanie McMahon are both former wrestlers, with Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Stephanie’s husband and a key figure in WWE, serving as its chief content officer.

Colonel Doug Collins, formerly of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, has a background in law and previously served as a representative in the Georgia State House, a member of Congress, and as a military chaplain.

However, based on his Veterans Affairs biography, he is primarily a husband to Lisa and a father to Jordan, Copelan, and Cameron.

Since 2019, Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota has been speculated as a potential running mate for Trump in 2024. However, this possibility faded when she revealed in her memoir “No Going Back” that she had shot her family’s misbehaving dog.

Undeterred by debate, President Trump chose Noem – a former congresswoman who served from 2011 to 2019 and was part of the House Armed Services Committee – to lead the Department of Homeland Security. This department is tasked with safeguarding the United States from both domestic and foreign threats.

In 1992, the former South Dakota Snow Queen exchanged vows with Byron Noem, and together they have raised three children.
