Elton John Breaks Down in Tears in Studio

Sir Elton John is recognized for his heartfelt ballads, yet his most recent composition took him by surprise with its powerful impact.

At age 78, this renowned artist is set to debut a new album alongside Brandi Carlile. This project has led him to contemplate his own life span, causing a heartfelt 45-minute outpour of tears within the recording studio.

Regarding the song “When This Old World Is Done with Me,” Sir Elton opened up about the impact it had on him to contemplate his long-term relationship with husband David, who they’ve shared 32 years together, as well as their sons Zachary, age 14, and Elijah, age 12.

On the SmartLess podcast, where Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett are hosts, the actor from Rocketman admitted that he became emotional as the music concluded.

He described his songwriting process as follows: “I’m crafting a verse that sounds quite beautiful, but when I reach the chorus, naturally, it deals with the theme of my own demise.

“So, when I got to the chorus, I just broke down for 45 minutes.”

John mentioned that the incident was eventually captured on film by a documentary team, who trailed them while they were working on Who Believes in Angels? Stories from the Edge of Creation.

Both the album and the film, which bears the same name, will be released on 4th April.

This version also showcases collaborations with prominent musicians, specifically members of Red Hot Chili Peppers, namely Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer.

They’ll perform a mix of fresh songs from their latest album alongside some beloved oldies, followed by a cozy chat session between them, hosted by Dan Levy from Schitt’s Creek, who will serve as the moderator.
